Once and for all: How long for WBTB??

I have heard that you should stay up for 10 minutes, or 30 minutes, or even 1 hour (or more). Which one is it? Is there a correct amount of time before you should go back to sleep for WILD, or does it depend on the person?

As I don’t like being tired, I personally go straight back to bed after my alarm has woken me.

For WILD, I’d suggest you go straight back to bed. This way you’ll have an easier time letting your body fall asleep.

For MILD, it’s probably best if you stay awake a while first.

Yeah. I’m staying up for 30 minutes and 6-7 hours of sleep for MILD and it never failed - I’m always getting LD’s after that one. It’s hard to say about WILD fight WBTB time for me, but I don’t reccomend trying it after more time - it’s kinda hard to fall asleep. Don’t moving after waking up seems best idea.

I think that the time depends on person. Some need more time, some less to clear their mind, and prepare it to recognize the dream when they fall asleep.

For example, lately i have been too tired, or having too small amount of sleep to get any LD-s anymore. But last evening i decided that tonight i will have one. So after 6 hours of sleep i went to toilet and did some brainwork (thinking about some RL stuff) to wake my brain up for successful MILD. It took about 5 minutes, and then i went back to bed. Did short, but convincing MILD and 30-45 minutes later had my first LD this month :content:

Of course if i would been too tired, then 5 minutes would not made the difference.

i usually stay up for about an hour but i think that’s too long because i usually can’t get to sleep again properly after that, so i think 10/30 minutes is the best to do

I only stay up for like 15 minutes- I don’t want to get too tired- but during that time I think EXCLUSIVELY about LDs… it seems to work quite well.

WBTB is amazingly easy for me since I naturally wake up after 4-6 hours of sleep…

I think so too. you should try a WBTB and go to sleep again whenever you feel you should.
Try it a few times and then you’ll know the best timing.

I set my alarm clock for one hour later, then take a leak, perform some RCs and then go straight back to bed.
Doesn´t take me more than say ten minutes.
After that i stay completly in bed and just reset the alarm.

The two important factors are, The ability to fall alseep again, and waking the mind up enought to stay focused for a while. Personally if I just wake up in the night, i’m too tired to focus. I hardly even think about it. But if I stay awake for a while, I may not be able to sleep again. It depends on many things. I have noticed though. that If I get up and go back to sleep a few hours later, on the rare occasion that is possible. Then I can have a LD without trying.

I stay up as long as it takes to record any dreams I remember (which can take anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes). I try not to leave the bed at all if possible. Then I set an alarm for current_time + 3 hours. Usually it takes me no longer than 10-15 min to fall asleep again.

I often wake up after lucid dreams well before the 3 hours have passed and just repeat the process. The alarm is just meant as a fallback so I will wake up if I don’t have a LD and can try again. Autosuggesting yourself to wake up at a specific time can work amazingly well. I sometimes wonder how the “internal clock” can be so accurate. :eh:

For me, it is the most promising technique right now.
