One BIG dream, or many little ones maybe?

Hi dreamers.

I´ve been keeping a dream journal from a week now and I´ve noticed that I can´t distinguish when I get out of a dream and when I enter into another.
I guess it´s because I don´t wake up between each one.
Nevertheless I supose that when a dream changes its “subject” it´s because a new one is starting, right?. I´m not sure, maybe you can give me a hint.
Also I´d like to know if you recommend me writing down every little detail one remembers (I have a very good memory on dreams but I´m kind of lazy writing, specially when I´ve just woke up… hehehe).

Well, that will be it.

Sweet dreams, everybody.

J.C. Moco.

I’ve got no idea on the ‘how to distinguish different dreams’ bit, but I can help with the second question.

Personally, I try to strike a balance between writing down every single little detail and just writing down the important ones. Like you, I have good recall and so I usually don’t have nearly as much time as I’d need to write down everything - in fact, sometimes it takes me days to write everything up in full detail! But on the other hand, you don’t want to leave out anything really important in case you forget it later.

It depends what you tend to remember the best, I think. For me, it’s scenery. So when I write everything down, I leave the scenery till last, as I know it will stay in my head longer than everything else will. That way I can write down the rest immediately and come back to the scenery later when I have time. So in short: leave your strong point till last, and get the vague bits down as quickly as possible before you forget them.

As you continue to practice lucid dreaming skills your recall will improve in time. You will be able to distinguish between separate dreams with practice. Also don’t be surprised if you normal dreams start to get much more interesting as time goes on. You also could wake yourself up after say 5 or 6 hours sleep and just jot down a few notes on any dreams you had (that should be enough for you to remember the complete dream in the morning) then go back to sleep and wake up at your normal bed time. Then of course write down any dreams you can remember.

Well I am a believer of writing down as much as you can remember but that is just my preference. Try not to look on this as a chore. If you do not have enough time in the morning to record your dreams in detail then just write down the highlights then, at night before you go to bed you can fill in the details. This could be a good way to help you set your intention to remember you are dreaming while you are dreaming. Anyway, as your dreams become more interesting you will find that you want to record them in more detail.

Good luck and happy dreaming!

Hey Moco, welcome to the forum.

Distinguishing between seperate dreams is something purely subjective. If you think a certain dream is seperate from a previous one because the content is different, then by all means regard it as a seperate dream. It doesn’t really matter anyway .

I can understand how you sometimes can’t tell where one dream ends and another starts (happens to me occasionally).

For the most part - don’t worry about.

But, I find a good way to help with this, is to simply take the dream, and either work your way forwards or backwards (I find following my train of thought works best) until you either come to what looks like the begining of the dream, or the end of the current one.
