I started learning about Carl Jung in my psychology class today, and the collective unconscious and his theory that everything you experience happened bring to mind dream sharing and OBE’s. Any opinions on this or on Jung in general?
I read a collection of Jung essays last year and his Seven Sermons for the Dead. His ideas are very interesting and thought-provoking. The concept of the collective unconscious, in my mind, is an appealing one. However, I think that some of his theories are generalizations made from clinical cases that could be interpreted many different ways. I think that constructs such as archetypes could exist, but probably not to the extent that Jung described them.
if you’re interested in Jung then you of course need to check out his book called Dreams ( amazon.com/Dreams-C-G-Jung/dp/0691017921 ). just be sure to keep an open mind and regard his ideas as theories and not fact
Cool. That book looks interesting. Does it have anything about lucid dreaming?
Carl Jung was a brilliant Psychologist. I really love his Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, regarding the four main personality temperaments.
What I’m most interested in though, is his mysterious Red Book. I’d love to get my hands on it.
