I often find that if I have no pressing engagements the next day I can and will sleep for an inordinate amount of time. A lot of this time is not really sleeping but more like dozing. I will come out of a dream and just roll over and slip into the next one. This can go on for hours. This can be amazing but it does have obvious downsides. I have also found that a lot of my past LDs have happened in this dozing period.
So does anyone else find that they oversleep/doze a lot? Does it cause you any problems? Do you find that dozing helps with LD?
Your thoughts on this subject would be much appreciated.
I have this issue sometimes. Dozing, I mean, I don’t sleep all that much. At least for me, very light sleep such as dozing is detremental to my dream recall. I can remember fragments from the entire night and morning, at best. However, this is not true for everyone. If you can stay more conscious than I while in this state, you might have great success with MILD, WILD, DEILD, and other such methods. I’ve only had a few LD’s from this, and they’ve been short or foggy. But it seems like you have better luck than me in this. Good luck and keep dreaming!
I doze a lot too when I don’t have anything planned that day. I find dozing is good for WILD if I get in the habit of staying still while waking up. If I get in the habit of doing it, I can get WILD after WILD each time I wake up.
Thanks guys, glad to hear that I’m not the only dozer out there!
I brought this topic up because my first experience of lucidity since discovering this site was in a dozing period. And in the past plenty of my LDs have occurred whilst dozing. I have only recently started reading about LD and techniques etc. So I have never really been able to put a context to my experiences.
It now seems quite clear that when dozing and attaining lucidity I have been doing some form of WILD. When dozing I am in a very light state of sleep and am almost semi-conscious, and as such it is much easier to recognise the subtle transition between wakefulness and sleep, and to remain conscious throughout the transition.
I am sure that I could have had much more fruitful experience of LDing in the past if it had not been for my terrifying initial experiences of sleep paralysis whilst dozing. With a a skewed and hazy context to these experiences I became petrified that during sleep paralysis I was being attacked by some paranormal entities that were trying to possess me. Sounds weird I know but my head was all over the place at the time. Anyway I would do anything I could to wake myself up and get away from SP. This lead to many false awakenings and more weirdness.
Over time I began to accept SP as not dangerous and go with the flow. Reading around on this site has only reaffirmed that belief, and I think I can now start to accept SP as a beautiful and necessary thing that will lead to some cool adventures.
Anyway I’m rambling. My point is that I think that dozing and WILD can go hand in hand, at least for me. But obviously the oversleeping aspect can have it’s drawbacks.
