people having the same dream

what do you think about people having the same dream? has it ever happened to you? once my friend’s sister was telling her boyfriend about her dream the night before, and as she was describing it, he was saying “i know. i had the exact same dream!” i didn’t get all the details, but wow!

and, slightly changing the subject, if you dream about a random person, are they real? do they really exist in this world? and did they have the same dream you had? it’d be so amazing to ASK them for their address or something, in your lucid state, and then in waking life actually MEET them.

any comments?

i’ve often wondered the same thing. you know, there are so many people in dreams, like the people in the street. the people you really dont know, who they are. so, where are they coming from? how did they got in to my dreams? it would be nice to meet them in a real life, like you said…

Some of the DCs that I have talked to doesn’t make sense. I always feel lucky when I find a DC that actually speaks coherently.

…but I’ve also wondered the same thing. What realm do these dreams actually take place in? :eh: Even if it is created only in our brain … what frequency is it operating on? Could our brains actually “sync” up with someone elses? Does thinking of the same topic bring our brains to the same frequency?

Incoherent DCs may just be non-lucid dreamers, or sleeping people drifting through your dream. Talkative DCs may be people thats a bit more conscious in their sleep state. … It’s fun to assume.

I’ve been interested in this concept for quite a while now. In fact, if I remember correctly it all started when I saw a report on how it might be possible to eventually read peoples minds using technology.

You see, every single thought you have ‘leaks’ from your head in all directions like a radio transmitter. It’s not very powerful, but it’s there. In theory, it is possible to detect the frequency of these waves and determine several aspects about what the mind is doing at that point. I don’t think you could essentially ‘read’ someones mind, because you would need to construct a neural network model based exactly on the subjects own mind, which is impossible.

Now, I pondered for a while if it might be possible that our brains are already capable of detectig these waves on a very primitive level. Even if the waves emitted by our brains are inadvertantly causing interference in those around us, we would still be technically interacting telepathically. Now, taking this one step further, perhaps while dreaming these waves are just a continuous stream of info in direct accordance with what we are dreaming about. Then maybe it’s possible that the brain can also act as a reciever in this state, and translate the interfering waves into object definitions, people, places, events, spoken word or emotions.

Having just expressed my childhood curiosity, I’ll now verify that I no longer speculate on the above possibility. Knowing more about how the brain works kind-of steps on my theory a little bit, but hey, perhaps evolution will work it’s way deeper into the mind and unlock this potentially amazing ability.

I was thinking the same thing. I’d be funny to go into a mall or crowded area and yell out “Is anyone lucid out there?”. I wonder what funny answers you might get…

One thought still bothers me relating to DC. What would happen if a person suffering from multiple personality disorder had a lucid dream? Could he meet his other personalities? What if people who claim to have OBEs and write books about them are just really good LDers with some form of MPD? If all of the personalities become active within a dream, they could in fact be actively increasing the lucidity to make it very real, and they can act out a play to which the observer finds a reality?

i think the idea of sending out the same wavelength is right on.

another example besides dreaming, is when i say the exact same thing as someone else. this happenes to me A LOT.

does anyone think there is a reason this happenes to me more than (it seems) anyone else around me? or is it just a conincidence?

Hmmm… All of it intriguing. Sometimes, I have dreams, and then later something will happen that is vaguely reminiscent of my dream. Not everything is exactly the same, but some small detail will be EXACT, and i will get this EXTREME sense of deja vu. Even if the place I am in, I have never been in before. It is really creepy. Once, I dreamed of my friend in this restaurant, with the guy she liked, and he said that he loved her, and the NEXT DAY, they both were in a restaurant together. Is is just coincidence? It is mind blowing, anyway.

damn… I have been thinking about the exact same thing earlier, I think I even posted a thread on it some time ago…

I have noticed there are dream characters in my dream, just doing nothing, and sometimes I have been thinking, when I wake up that they were watching me… very bizarre, and I dont know if it is just me.
How bout there is not 1 supreme being (God), but more of them, (suppose they created us, or we are just living in a nice computer program they created, anyhow, our creators) then they just come observe our dreams for entertainment…

this is really cool to think about… the reason i really wanted to practice lucid dreaming is because there’s one dream, pretty much only one that i remember when i was a kid, and it was so clear that i remember everything about it-
i was in a bizarre flying dream apparently, but stepped through a random door in the air and realized that i had been in a crazy less aware dream, and that i was stepping into a physical place that was all awareness… it was this subterranean hall, with reflective pools…
i remember how cool and quiet it was down there and how calm i felt… very subtle feelings i felt strongly, when i had never really had or remembered any emotional dreams before.
the most amazing thing is that there were doors every now and then, just like the ones that i stepped out of, and i would go up to them and examine them, but i knew that they led to other people’s dreams and that i wouldn’t go in.
so since i was a kid, i’ve been convinced that you could meet other people in their dreams… also because every once in a while i would share a dream with either my mother or my brother… we wouldn’t meet each other, we would just dream the same thing… start describing them, and then finish each other’s sentences…
so, it’s been a long time since i’ve had those dreams, and now i want to get back into them…
rock on y’all, ian

I believe our dreams are somehow connected in an extremely weird way. Not too sure right now… how. But I’ve experienced this with my partner one night.

Please take this post for what it’s worth. I propose we use only one small piece of our brain. If you sleep beside another person, like I do, you may have an experience something like I had a few months back. Were drifting off to sleep my partner and I carried out a conversation. . . into our dream. I’m not proposing we ‘shared’ a dream exactly. Nevertheless, we awoke having the same dream. The details and the basic frightening/startling reality our brains continued communicated beyond our consciousness leads me to believe the following…

Our brains can communicate with one another without fundamental forms of communication. We may not be aware of it… but it happens. Have you known what someone was going to say before they said it? Remember the saying… “If you’re ears are ringing, someone’s talking about you?” Where did this come from. Quite possibly from people who have experienced what I call a ‘relative brain connectivity.’ Not telepathy… nowhere anything near it. But just like LD, our brains subconsciously continue activity well beyond our knowing. And maybe something near telepathy could be possible… but it’s a tad far fetched. Who knows?

All this said… if the general human experience is merely comprised of many chemical responses (our brains interpretation of sensory input), when our heart discontinues supplying the brain with blood…. the electricity in our brains dissipates, brain function stops and … we drift off into a ‘sleep.’

People who have had near death experiences say it’s as if they fell asleep and had a dream. Moreover, to bring someone back to life… (pardon the expression) doctors electrocute the crap out of you. Electrical impulses surge back through your brain…. and those “near deathers” report they come back to their physical bodies.

I feel the concepts described are an extension or LD or at least is connected in some way.
