Sleep researchers write about sleep paralysis and REM sleep. Sleepwalking is supposed to happen when mind is in delta state and not dreaming.
In several dreams I have awoken while moving my physical body. The dreams seemed quite vivid.
In one dream I kicked a DC and woke up when my foot kicked against the blanket. Last night I was punching a DC with my left hand and woke up when my left fist hit my mattress. These movements were not subtle twitching but had large movement.
In a more peaceful dream a DC was teaching me about a meditation posture. And I woke up in the posture (it involved twisting legs and arms - definitely not a normal sleep position).
Have you had dreams where you also moved your physical body?
I have kicked myself awake because there were spiders all over my legs in a dream.
Also thanks to being very annoyed in a dream I wanted to headbutt this DC of a boy from highschool that when I actually did headbutt him, I headbutted my bedroom wall and gave myself a minor concussion.
i once woke up standing in the middle of my room fully dressed with a backpack on, my parents told me that i had walked downstairs and asked them if it was time for school yet and then went back upstairs, i dont remember the dream i was having though or walking downstairs.
I wish I could do that! Do you have any idea how often I’m late to school?
On one occasion, while I was on a vacation years ago (I was in second grade, I’m sure of it) I had woken up with my head at the foot of the bed, and visa versa. That was just plain confusing to me at the time.
I’d imagine sleep paralysis isn’t perfect. If you’re sufficiently motivated in the dream, you may cause some signals to get through to the parts of your brain that control physical movement. However, Ignorance, the kind of stuff you’re talking about is not the result of failed sleep paralysis–you simply did all these actions while in non-REM sleep. Perfectly normal, although always bizarre because we typically have no memory of our actions.
Last night I had a dream where I was trying to move but was hindered I was so frustrated that I woke up and found that the sheet was wound tightly around me tying me up.
Either my SP is not very good, or I have vivid non-REM dreams.
