hypnagogia, it’s not anything new or that exciting for me anymore. i’ve experienced it almost every other night or so for as long as i can remember. even as a child. i get the whole train effect of it as well. i can not do it when ever i want nor have i tried, however, i will say this: the other day i was getting out of class and out of nowhere it happens to me. but not like it usually does. more like it happend for like less then a minute and then nothing. it happend to me a couple more times after that that same day. i don’t know what mite have happend to happen to me there and then but it’s not cool. it happend to me today again when i was drawing in class and i totally freak out. has this happend to anyone else here and if so i would like to know how you make it stop. please.
Moved from beyond, added (hypnagogia) to the topic title for clarification.
First, a few things before I answer. Change that title. Please. That is really annoying to see “please read.” That just be me though. Also, please capitalize the letters where appropriate. That just gives me a headache. Okay, enough grammar Nazi.
Thats pretty weird. I’m pretty sure that hypnagogia only happens when you are falling asleep. So, you are probably having a different kind of hallucination. Maybe you could research it for yourself on the interwebs and get a better answer. But anyway, sorry that I couldn’t give a better answer. Hopefully someone else can. Good luck getting rid of that.
There have been a few times in school when I have nothing to do and I just let myself go into hypnogogia without falling asleep…
But thats not your case; you didn’t bring it upon yourself at all. If you feel comfortable do you mind sharing what kind of hallucinations? Did you find your eyes closed through it or were you actually seeing in front of you what wasn’t there? How strong were they? Did you feel or hear things as well? You said it was very short-but how vivid, how close to “reality” did you feel it?
well, my eyes were closed and i “fell” into my sleep state but that normaly happens to me in bed. i don’t really fight it but sometimes i jolt myself out of it if i’m too sleepy or if i need to get up early the next day. i always hear and see things to the max when it starts to happen. but when i was in class i totally freaked and was petrified like never before. i usually see a great amount of color when it starts to happen and then it goes into the heavier stuff, like i’m for sure i’m awake but then i open my eyes and realize i was still dreaming when i could have sworn i was awake the whole time. pretty real, too. i can swear to you that i’m gently flying over a pink-orange blanket of clouds one minute and sitting in my chair the next.
Have you ever been diagnosed with CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome? have you hit your head on something recently very hard ( that is a serious question)
Do you have a low iron deficiency?
Are you under a great deal of stress
Has your diet changed a great deal recently
Have you taken and recreational or other drugs recently
Have you had you seen a ears throat and nose specialist?
Is your blood pressure lower then it is normally?
I have had times like you have mentioned but they have only happened when i am extremely tired and have not slept well over the last couple of days, the brain will cause a rem rebound effect, your pods will activate while you are awake which can cause some of the instances you have mentioned it has been found in many sleep deprivation studies.
I would suggest that if it gets worse to see a doctor, and very shortly too, although it may not be, there have been evidence in the past of small brain tumours or pressure pockets that can cause visual or tactile or auditory hallucinations.
It is weird but these words do resemble the ones that define sleep paralysis.
Am I wrong or are you paralyzed during these episodes?
Sleep paralysis is also accompanied with great fright.
Thanks for your answer ^^
