Hey guys, I was looking into starting WILD. I recently started a polyphasic sleep schedule which is 3x90 min sleeps throughout the day. Now, I assume with this you can WILD before prior sleep as it’s like going into a nap instead of a sleep. I know that in at least one of my sleeps I can get to REM very fast. I went to sleep at 5:30 and woke up at 5:50 straight from a dream.
Do you think this is realistic? I’d love 3 wild attempts a day hehe.
Hmm… I think that might not be enough sleep! Lol. One good thing is that after a while you will build up a great amount of rebound sleep, where your REM periods will begin very quickly and last longer, since your body is compensating for a lack of it. Thing is, this is called sleep debt, and for a good reason. According to your circadian rythem, anything under 6 hours of straight sleep until your melatonin stops natural production and your body temp hits its lowest daily point, you won’t get enough sleep to actually make up for your bodies daily expense of energy. Sleep for its main purpose is now counterproductive. The other stages of sleep, especial stage 3 delta sleep is vital to your bodies functions, so you would actually end up degrading your personal health
You need ~90m of REM and ~90m of delta wave sleep - the rest of your night is spent in the transitory sleep stages. Polyphasic simply provides the opportunity to remove those so REM/SWS is a greater % of overall sleep.
You got it right! You get 3 WILD attempts per day, and I hope you have an iron will for all three - you’ll need it. Have you read the WILD or SSILD guides on this site?
