Problem with relaxing

OK i didn’t know where to post but my problem is i realize I’m dreaming and after that “click” i know the endless possibilities and wake up from over excitement…this has happened about 4 or 5 times my whole life and two of them just recently. Now the bigger issue that I’m having is this morning i tried FILD and i know it wasn’t working at first but after several minutes it started to hit me…i started to kinda go numb and was getting that tingling sensation and i started to feel like my eyes were about to open up any second in dream world. Then all of a sudden my heart started beating fast and i started to breath a little faster and woke up. i don’t think this was the best explanation but its all i got, any advice people? I try to just sleep normal but its just i notice i start breathing faster when I’m about to drift off.

Welcome Deaner206

The fast heartbeating and the breathing are signs of entering a WILD, so you were pretty close. The trick is (and this is easier said than done) to remember that these things can’t hurt you. Your heart isn’t actually exploding and if you feel you have trouble breathing, you are in fact breathing without a problem. They are only illusions you get sometimes when entering the dreamworld. You have to stay calm, and keep your focus on the dream, trying to ignore these symptoms as much as possible.

This demands practice, though. At first it seems almost impossible, but after a few tries you’ll se it gets easier and easier to ignore them and you’ll get closer to a WILD! Focusing on any HI may help distract you and make it easier to ignore the weird WILD things…

The over excitement inside the LD is the same, after you have a certain number of LD’s you’ll be able to stay calmer.

I don’t know if I really helped

i can relate

I get this with FILD too.

yea i i knew everything was ok i was just more worried of my body getting all worked up and not being able to dream. how long did it take you to get used to this feeling? Thanks this helped in so many ways :content:

Instead of waiting for an LD to decide what to do, set what you want to do in your mind beforehand. Then you can stay focused!
Other possibilities:

  1. Spin.
  2. Force yourself to calm.
  3. Keep practicing and let the emotion control come naturally.
    Hope this helps!

First: Welcome to LD4all Deaner206! You just found the best forum ever!
Now to topic.

Shadow Dreamer is absolutely right about the practicing and emotion control. It does get easier for every LD you get (Even if it doesn’t seem like that), and the surprise of being Lucid will dissapear (Not entirely, but to an extent that you won’t freak out like I do  )

i tried again this morning and grrrr i was so close just like last time  …would the music thing really help because i never liked listening to music while trying to fall asleep. I’m glad i found this forum its keeping me so positive.

I haven’t yet! Actually I don’t get them that frequently… but I’ve slowly gotten better at resisting it. Looking at them in a detached way and pretending these weird feelings aren’t happening to you can help. Try not to care emotionally what’s happening. With the difficult breathing I think if you just stop trying to breathe it might work. What happens is your SC starts taking control over your breathing, so if you try to consciously control it you’ll feel like you can’t and are suffocating… Just trust your SC and your body know what they’re doing

Hey, I have experienced this aswell :o When trying to WILD I all of the sudden feel my heartrate going up and my breathing getting fast and shallow. But after some time that feeling pass and I feel like normal again. Could this be because I pay to much attention to it or get over-excited? Mattias, you mentioned this being the beginning of WILD, so that basicaly means I have got closer than I might have thought myself?

Yep! :content: Well, in theory at least. I’ve only WILD’ed with these feelings twice! Once I freaked out and woke myself up but ended up in a FA  and the other I think I kind of made it but lost lucidity as soon as I entered the dream.

But I think if you’re able to resist it, stay calm and focus on something else you’ll defenitely enter a LD! And if the feelings just fade away remember that there’s always a chance you are in a dream and don’t know it. Unfortunatelly to do a RC you have to move… just stay alert in case…

and breathing faster is another sign of over-exitement, wich is caused by anticipation, just calm down some more, and it might help.

what ive noticed here, is alot of people are forgetting an important rule
dont breath too fast!
breathing too fast also kicks you out of a dream :grrr:
breathing too fast quickens your pulse, the body senses it, and wakes itself up, the mind senses that and, you wake up, and have to start all over again
if you can control this breathing, it might help.

Yeah, I thought some about it aswell. But the fast breathing seems to come by itself when my heartrate goes up. I usually just go with it because I did not want to disrupt the breathing pattern. ( Since I thought that breathing fast was a natural part at that point. ) But next time I will try to slow it down and see what happens.
