Question on medicine and LD's

Ok as I mentioned in my “hello i’m new post” i’m just recently re-exploring lucid dreaming. I’m very young and recently I have been hit hard with rheumatoid arthritis of my hips and its really quite painful (just imagine being 21 and not being able to do things because of pain  ) Anyway my doctor gave me some pain medicine to help me sleep, and one night i was just laying in bed awake, when i suddenly found myself slipping into a dream, while awake? I was completely conscious and knew what was happening, thought it wasn’t long before my excitement made the dream slip away. This is the main reason that my interest in LD has been re-ignited.

My main question, has anyone else noticed a correlation between certain medicines it is against the LD4all guidelines to possibly encourage people to take medicines in the pursuit of LDs :moogle: or vitamins that they’ve taken and the appearance of more recalled dreams, or perhaps even more LD’s? My main guess is that the pain meds have relaxed my body more and taken my thoughts away from pain to allow me to slip into said dream.

I’m sure i’ll have tons more questions but perhaps shouting them all at once wouldnt’ be the best idea

Thanks for your replies in advance

Its possible that certain medicine just relaxed your body enough to fall asleep while your mind was still awake.

As for vitamins, I currently take this mix before sleep:

DMAE - 351MG
B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 - 100mg
B12 - 35mg
Ginkgo - 120mg
Insolute - 100mg

My dreams are freakishly clearer and more vivid. I get lucid about the same amount as I always have though, just was clearer.

If you plan on taking that, please research it all before you do.
Seriously if you think about taking any of it research it. If it has side affects it is not my fault.

Firstly, I am really sorry to hear that you were hit by rheumatoid arthritis. I’ve heard that the medicine they give you for that type of arthritis are powerful. So that might be the reason you had an brief lucid (?) dream - you fell asleep much faster than usual.

So to answer your question, yes I’ve found out that B-complex vitamins help a lot - but keep in mind that nothing can happen without practice  The doctor might prescripted you a tranquiliser, so that might helped you a lot! However, try to achieve lucidity without the help of such drugs (I am not talking about vitamin supplements) because you may get addicted to them and as a result you wont be able to sleep without them.

Apparently vitamin B6 is well known for inducing very vivid dreams and stuff.

thanks for the replies, i’ll look into b-complex vits. I don’t take the pain meds every night, just when i’m in very sore shape… my doctor is still running test, to fine out exactly whats going on, before he starts pumping me full of drugs, so hopefully these pills are a temporary solution.

I’m not sure about the pain meds you’re taking, but I understand that some depressants (like alcohol) can limit REM sleep for a period of time - when the effect wears off, you’ll experience what’s called REM rebound, where your mind will dream very vividly and for a longer time than usual, in order to make up for the previous loss of REM sleep. I’m not sure how good this is for lucid dreaming though and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it - REM rebound can also often cause very vivid nightmares.
