After awhile of just relaxing for probably atleast 20 minutes, my body feels numb then it goes into some kind of weird state. I start breathing faster/harder (not on my freewill) and my eyes make quick movements under the eyelids (fluttering i guess could describe it) the eye movements are constant then I just relax again and go back to normal… What is this?
I like it because it shows me that I am getting somewhere as opposed to sitting there and waiting for nothing.
Needless to say after that happened I lyed there a long time with nothing happening so I just gave up and went to sleep.
I THINK THAT HAPPENED TO ME TOO!!.. last night i was trying to WILD and about 10 -15 mins into it i was totally relaxed…all of a sudden i see this flash of light and soon after floods of other dark colors fill my vision and my heart rate increased significantly. I mean it was racing out of my chest. I was also breathing much harder and faster. This was the first time i felt like this so i kinda started to panic. When efforts to calm myself were useless i opened my eyes in the dark and looked over to a poster on my wall. To my amazement a dark fog or cloud like thing descended down the wall…so i jumped up and turned the lights on…
Now that i read your post i do recall my eyes making the movements you described before.
Typical WILD stuff as Robin said. There are many posts about this on the forum. Breathing and heart rate changes occur when the pontus, a part of the brain, send signals to enter REM sleep. And of course, (REM) Rapid Eyes Movements occur too.
/me hopes Robin learnt the lesson and can recite it by heart next time.
If I was entering REM then shouldn’t I have been seeing HI? And should the REM’s keep going continuously because they stopped eventually. So would that mean that I interrupted it?
Both, not seeing HI and stopping the REM can appear because of too much excitement, doubt or fear. You have to let the process happen, not thinking about it too much (requires some training) and not falling asleep. Hope to see some successfull WILDers soon.
I always have a short blackout right about that time. I don’t know if that is normal, but when I am having HI, then I just become aware at some time later, that I am dreaming. I don’t know what happens in between. It could also be that I have false memorys and think that I have been dreaming for a while, and it is just a very abrupt change from HI to dreaming.
When doing WILD I do focus a bit on the HI, but not much. It is more like I try to take a step back and watch what is going on with my body/mind while doing this, then “bang” I am in a dream, and I know it. I just try not to get too involed in what is happining, ie. the vibration, REM’s etc. otherwise I can’t get to sleep. I still wake up a lot right after I become lucid. (like every time so far ) I generaly try to stay relaxed when that happens, and can offten drop off to sleep again within minutes and have another lucid second. I hope that it gets to be more soon.
I take what I can get.
Hope that this helps.

I’m trying to WILD each evening. My biggest problem is, that if I concentrate not to lose consciousness, then I can’t fall asleep, and on the other hand if I don’t concentrate, I don’t become lucid.
But yesterday I felt that I’m closer to success than ever (not counting “accidental” WILD ), and I hope I will be able to WILD soon
I’m currently learning to lucid dream through WILD and I get those exact feelings. My heart rate when shooting the first time I tried. I also tend to get some eye twitches but I don’t think its REM. My right eye tends to want to open when I’m relaxing and I think I am just trying to keep it closed. That in itself also distracts me.
