I’m sorry because I know this has been discussed before, bu I don’t think directly.
In a lot of the threads in Quest for Lucidity, experienced lucid dreamers say to ‘pretend that WL is a dream’. That’s me paraphrasing of course. I was just wondering why this helps someone like me, who wants to have their first lucid dream, get their first lucid dream? Could someone please explain this to me?
I think pretending WL is a dream helps you to achieve LDing by getting you to try to do things in WL that you can only DO in dreams… Its more of a lucid mindset kinda thing I think.
EG: In WL you would be driving down the street… then you would ‘pretend’ that you are in a dream and you would then proceed to try to fly your car up into the air.
Sooner or later you will have a dream with the same situation… you would be driving down the street… then you would ‘pretend’ that you are in a dream and you would proceed to try to fly your car up into the air – in astonishment you’re actually flying now… “OMG I’m dreaming!”
In the end, like jaserrano0729 was explaining, it’s about maintaining the right mindset. Now, to make it even more effective you can take it a step further by coming to the realization that you could easily be dreaming at any time, and you can never be fully certain you are awake. In this way you’re more of living life as if it could be a dream at all times. This will really raise your awareness and is the main tech of a few of our “master” lucid dreamers.
Now, this can be a little easier said than done, but if you look around you’ll find some very good topics on Lucid Living and All Day Awareness such as this one: linky
Note: lucid living has evolved a bit since that first topic was made, so I would suggest you look around a little more on your own ^^
So, what I gathered from the replies is that you try things that wouldnt work in RL so just by chance if you are in a dream and you do that you will recognize you are dreaming? In essence, you are attempting things that you would in a dream ( that arent physically possible in rl) so if you get into a habit of doing that constantly throughout the day (everytime you do a RC), you can improve your chances of lding.
Am i right?
In my opinion, the point in pretending WL is a dream is that it makes it easier to get into that certain state of awareness.
If you can live yourself into the imagination that WL is a dream, then you will start treating real life as a dream and feel much more curious of everything around you.
You can try this right now - look out through a window in your house and gaze at the buildings, trees or whatever and ask yourself “if this was a dream, what could I expect to find in that house?” or “if this was a dream, what creatures could be in that forest over there?”.
These kinds of fantasies alone can trigger an amazing excitement.
If you treat real life as a lucid dream (and feel curious about it) then you will become much more aware of everything, and this will eventually have an effect on your awareness in your dreams as well, which will lead to lucidity.
