Howdee doodee y’all. I decided to make this post for anybody new to see ways that other people use RC’s in context. Not as a guide on how to do it, but to see the ways others on the forum do it in real life as an example on the way you do things personally. Also for inspiration to be drawn by any already experienced LD’ers use RC’s in circumstances that they haven’t before. So here is a factual daily walkthrough on how i personally RC.
Starting on my way to work i go to the local gas station since they stock my favorite coffee. There is a man that works behind the counter every single day at this time, yet today there is a woman behind the counter. My higher conscious is rational, telling me “obviously sick. They called this poor woman in to do a morning shift.” Thing is, my unconscious in my dream will make this change illogically, and keep my higher thinking skills too dormant to notice. So while my hands are on the counter as she’s counting my changed, i count my fingers and look for inconsistencies.
On the way to work, 4 people on motorcycles pass me on the interstate in quick succession. Again, conscious says, “there’s a bike rally in town this week. Actually surprised i haven’t seen a couple dozen of these guys already today.” However, patterns like these, be it Deja Vu, color consistencies, or numerical repetition in this case, are big dream signs of mine. With one hand on the wheel, the other covers my nose as i attempt to breath through it.
At work, i feel a strange pleasurable light-headedness. It’s from the caffeine buzz and lack of food (i don’t eat breakfast ). It’s perfectly explainable, yet it’s still a feeling that doesn’t come naturally to a body in ordinary circumstances. So i look at the clock in the taskbar of my computer and look for odd characters or number changes.
On i’m having a smoke with a friend in his car and i see on the dashboard there is a small compass. I think, (possibly unrationally in your opinion lol) who keeps a compass around in the city nowadays?) i do an RC here, and ask my friend why it’s there. His explanation is ordinary, if it rang any more alarm bells, i would do an additional check.
So throughout the day if anything seems slightly out of the norm, i do what Steven Laberge calls a “critical state test”. That is, a reality check with a followup of asking myself what events lead up to this? what was i doing when i spaced out for a second? These are practical examples of how I RC. Please offer your input on this, as well as any circumstances unique to you when you do a check
