I had a RC witch I used a lot. Looking at a clock. First it worked in dreams. But later I was able to look at the time in dreams. I have a new RC. Looking at my hand. First my hands became really weird in dreams. But now they look normal. Last night I had FA, I wanted to test reality. I looked at my hand. I counted my fingers. (5) I looked again, I counted again (5). I looked again and still 5 fingers. I figured it wasn’t a dream. Same for light switch… In one dream. It worked (or the light wouldn’t go on ) later in that dream… It did go on. It’s very frustrating because I have to practise a lot before a RC appears in a dream…
It happens. And sometimes the reality check can be the reason you don’t become lucid because you trust it too blindly. Last time it happened to me I decided the dream was real because the RC told me so, even though I still suspected I was dreaming.
You gotta keep in mind that sometimes RCs don’t work and do several different ones. The hand is always avaliable. wich is great. But I find that it has a good ability to be normal. Text I find is the best RC, but it’s not always around. Nose check is also good. If they all tell you you are awake but you still aren’t sure, try flying.
Do many RCs at one time. Also, ask yourself if you’re dreaming (Am I dreaming?).
And don’t worry, I have the same problem. I can’t seem to breathe through a blocked nose anymore in my dreams.
If you’re not sure, continue RCing
In my first LD, I did the clock RC and it worked, but it seemed to be so real, so I wasn’t sure if I’m dreaming. Then I went to my sister and asked her if I’m dreaming, and the whole world (my dream world) started to change. So what’s my point? The point is - You can always go and ask someone if you’re dreaming, or even ask yourself, and you should feel really strange.
BTW. You can try feel your real body which is in bed. If you will feel it, so YEEPEY! You’re dreaming!
Sometimes I keep looking for good things to do a RC on. I’m so busy with doing that that I forget to do something nice with my dream. When I suspect that I’m draming. I am. But I want to be sure. And if RC’s don’t work then…
i find that RC aren’t necessarily the right angle to take to lucid dreaming. Of course, they work and whatnot, and help, but as krakatoe said, we cannot trust these checks blindly. Recently I’ve been spending time to do both RCs bu also, what i do is this: ask myself “Is this real? Or is this all in my head?”. This helps me more than saying “Am I dreaming?”, because the two sentences I ask myself sort of sum up the word ‘dreaming’ in a more easy to understand way. It’s hard to explain, but I find this easier when i think of it this way.
If it makes any difference to anyone, I have been into LDing for a while. Well, back in the day I strictly did RCs and didnt think very thoroughly into the concept, resulting in little sucess, so I gave it up. I have recently picked it back up again, with more intelligence and comprehension, and I have been using this “is this real?..” technique (?), I guess you could call it, lol. Anyhow, I have been using it, and I pretty much had a LD last night, which isnt bad concidering it was my first night with this phrase-technique
Hope I can help

I will give it a try ^^
Try pushing your hand through your body or some other solid object to test your reality. if you are still unable to penetrate but you think it is a dream, keep bashing your fist into it or your head. You won’t feel pain.
I’ve been trying to come up with a few new reality check ideas:
-
Try closing your eyes and imagining something. If you find that you are suddenly experiencing a change of scenery or anything beyond what you might expect to happen when you close your eyes, then you’re dreaming.
-
Actually, that’s about all I got
This is a good idea, but again, I don’t think you necesarily have to rely so blindly on RCs. Next time you think you’re dreaming but a RC doesn’t work, forget about the RC for a second, and think through your scenario logically. Ask yourself “Wait a minute, when was the last time I went to bed?” or simpl look around…chances are your dreamscape looks fairly odd.
