Reality checks

Hello. I’m pretty new to this forum; it does seem the most proffesional and extensive one on the topic of lucid dreams, and I really hope my involvement in it will increase my chances of lucid dreaming. I have been recording my dreams since December and had my first lucid dream after I watched the movie, “the science of sleep” (highly recomended), and have had four more to this day. Every time I have had one, it seems that the reality checks I have been practicing dont’t have anything to with them. I always go “oh! This is a dream!” and THEN do my reality checks. The way I’ve been doing them is once an hour when my watch beeps. I read that this is a good way to keep check of RCs, but I think it has just conditioned me to do reality checks when I hear the beep of my watch. Since I am unable to register outside nooses in my sleep it seems pretty useless. I’ve been doing this since Christmas; should I keep persisting or find another way to do RCs?

P.A. I’m sorry if this is an old topic, again, I haven’t been on here very long.

Hello, welcome to LD4all! :welcome:

A lot of times, RC’s won’t be the first hint you have that it’s a dream. Often times you’ll simply use them as confirmation, especially later on as your dreams become more vivid. Now, if you really do want to have dreams induced by RC’s (known as RCILD), try to do RC’s as many times a day as often as you can. I know a lot of people recommend the watch trick, but I have never agreed with that. Doing them once an hour by your watch will do just what you said; train you to RC when your watch goes off.

The more you do them, the more the habit will develop, and the more likely you are to do it randomly while you’re dreaming.

Anywho, I hope that helps. Good luck, and I’ll see you around the forum :content:

hi

I agree with Rhewin, and he does have much more experience (and success) with RCILD than I do, so I don’t have anything to add except good luck! Remember that there are lots of techniques out there and lots of tiny variations, but since you’ve had a few LD’s I’d say stick to what you are doing. Do more and more RC’s and write more and more details in your DJ.

I agree that the watch trick isn’t a very good idea. You should train yourself to RC every time you walk through a doorway instead, since you’ll likely walk through a door in one of your dreams.
