Reality Checks??

Hello! You could call me… relatively new here.
Anyway! I was wondering about reality checks and dream journals.
If you do start them do you have to do them forever?
And for the reality checks, does it have to be a specific something?
For instance, let’s say my reality check in my front door. Would it work for every single door in the world? Or would it only work for the ones I’ve done several times?

Hello, Ysnow1. :welcome:

Not really, but it is recommended that you keep a dream journal somewhat often because it will help you keep a good dream recall, which will make it easier for you to remember any lucid dreams you might have.
If you become skilled enough in lucid dreaming then you will become so familiar with the dreamworld that reality checks won’t really be necessary anymore, since you have already learned to tell the difference between real life and dreams.

Doing a Reality Check simply means that you try to find proof that you are dreaming, so the most natural RC is probably to just ask yourself “how do I know that I am awake right now?” and really prove to yourself that you actually are awake.
For example, if something seems out of the ordinary in any way then you might want to test the reality and see if you can do something impossible.

If you use your front door as a RC then there is a risk that you will only think of that door as a reality check, since you have specifically made your own front door the reality check.
It is probably better to choose something that you tend to dream about often, because this will eventually trigger a reaction like “hey, I usually dream about this kind of thing, so I might be dreaming now…!”.

Thanks so much! Really helped a lot.

I would suggest trying to put 2 of your fingers through your other hand every time you think to do it. Expect it to go through, because in a dream it will. Works for me.

Hello and welcome to LD4All!

As to the question, what Laurelindo said is pretty good. I’d recommend keeping a DJ always, though, as it greatly improves your DR.

When it comes to Reality Checks, though, it’s no so much important as how many you do, but how sincere you are when you do them. You have to actually believe you’re dreaming and use the RC as a means to prove that wrong. If you just RC and get it over with without a moments thought it’s likely you’ll do that in a dream as well.

With that being said, let us know how you progress!
