remaining in Sleep Paralysis

I’ve done plenty of research on lucid dreams, obe’s, sleep paralysis and the like, and have only had 3 lucid dreams (they didnt last very long either) but thats not the point.

IT seems that afternoon naps work best for me to almost immediately go into sleep paralysis.

Yesterday I took a nap around 2pm and shortly after became paralyzed, however i was not lying stretched out on my back, I was curled up in a ball, and then I met my old hag, however, it was I’d say about a 5 year-old evil-demon girl with red eyes staring at me. I’;ve encountered plenty of old hags before so it wasn’t particularly scary, but I wanted to try and straighten out my body so I moved, and unfortunately woke up.

Today, however, was the interesting part. I took a nap around 3, took about 5 mins to fall out of waking consciousness, and started becoming paralyzed again, but I didnt really go anywhere with it. Over the course of the next half hour of real time, I spent this entire half-hour half awake, half asleep and constantly drifting in and out of sleep paralysis. I don;t really know if I’m describing it adequately, but this entire time i was conscious, only not awake. My dream-eyes were open and I was in my normal bed only some of the furniture in the room was changed around so I knew I wasn’t really awake,

so everytime I started becoming paralyzed, my astral body would move around, i would feel my chest lifted sometimes, one time my entire body did a 180 on the bed so my head was now on the other end of it, then i moved and went back to normal again, one time i rolled out of the bed and then moved agian and went back to the half-awake half-asleep state. THis proceeded for about a half hour, and basically every time I moved jsut an inch I would come out of the paralysis, my astral body would line back up with my real one, and it only took about 30seconds to 1minute to start becoming paralyzed again. I literally must have become paralyzed about 10 different times during this nap.

THe weird thing is I couldn’t actually go anywhere with my astral body, it would only move a little and then disappear again, maybe I didn’t have enough power/energy left to officially leave my body?

I dunno…has anyone experienced something similar or heard about it??

Thanks

Fascinating account. I have had similar experiences but not as profound as yours since I’ve learned to escape from this state before I got skilled in its induction. In a typical OBE I separate from my paralysed body 3-10 times in a row. The total time is around 10-45 minutes.

I believe the reseparations or more exactly the mere act of getting back to the original position of my body reinforces and stabilises the ASP state. Placing reseparations close to each other tend to make the ASP state as sticky as you have experienced.

The trick to get out from its grip is to try to move away from the bed as quickly as possible without loosing surface contact with walls. Also, the rotation that you did spontaneously can stabilize the new episode.

Now let satisfy my curisosity: when you have got the opposite direction was it through a gradual shift like movement similar to those that the compass needle do or was it a flick like, instantenous change like just waking up in that particular direction? Thanks,

Popov

Don’t know how common this is, but this is what happens to me every time I have tried to WILD. No matter how long I try, I will just keep becoming paralyzed, then slip out of it, and it keeps happening over and over again. I have never been successful with WILD and I have never had an ‘Old Hag’. Every time I become paralysed, I seem to become more conscious.

Popov,

Sorry I’ve been really busy lately,

but, yea when i did the 180degree astral rotation, it was almost as if it was in slow motion i became completely paralyzed and then slowly my body started turning until my head was where my feet normally were.

Actually, i just had another SP episode about a half hour ago, i woroked the entire morning then cmae home to take a nap, and i ended up feeling paralysis coming on gradually, and once my entire body was paralyzed my astral body literaly shot up out of me toward the ceiling. THis is the first actual time ive gotten completely free from my body and looked down on it! yay me.

but another question, im pretty sure that my knees were bent and curled up a bit as i was paralyzed, but when i was lookin down on myself it looked like my body was lyin flat, streteched out on the bed. is this normal? or maybe was this just a dream or something?

Another point in discussion “are oobes real?”
And again i see it as supportive to what i personally think- its never real world, even if it seems so.

Thank you for your description.

By definition you have had an OBE. Of course it doesn’t mean you have perceived the so-called objective reality. Perhaps ASP experiences have a greater potencial for “real” OBEs but our percepts would be still mixed with dream hallucinations.

Seeing the sleeping body is even more difficult. There are some identity problems that need to resolve, belief conflicts I mean.

Often times the “sleeping body” seems missaligned or moving of its own, thus it can’t be the real physical body. The supposed dynamics of “real” OBEs also predicts that it is very hard to perceive our physical body. Seeing sort of a depression on the empty bed as a symbol of closure or a pulsating grey mass where the body should be seems to mark the onset of such experiences. They are often accompained by the inability to move freely, peripherally active and fragmented vision, that is, seeing the body from various points at the same time.

Albeit you cannot see you can sense the correct position of your body even from a DILD. Just fly off from the ground and order yourself to drift freely and spin back into its position without waking up. Usually this will cause exactly the same ASP state you try to escape from.

Jack, you seem busy enough to prove your tesis for yourself so I assume eventually you will be succeeded. But more seriously, I see no fundamental difference between the LD + ESP = OBE and the “something leave the body” hypothesis as long as we regard our perceptual word, including our brain, body and the space that surrounds them as subjective projections of our mind.

I go into SP at least once a week, I usually wake up afterwards. I have never had an ‘old hag’ or other bad sense, but sometimes I feel drowsy, have pain all over my body, or can’t breathe well.

Busy indeed:)
I dont think it has to be proved either way, though it would be nice. For me its enough to personally believe it.Im not so much fascinated by using Oobes to spy on my neighbours(i may change my mind when some attractiveness moves in:),i rather have fun out of them and use them adventure wise.

Actually, I posted this about 10 months ago on Deoxy.org. It was my first encounter with SP and i wrote it down 5 minutes after my experience. The experience was terrifying, and it defiantely wasnt hypnogogic imagery forming. This was almost like it actually occurred, or maybe just my mind compensating for what was happening to my body.? I got into bed around 11pm, concentrated on my breathing, and some minutes after it came on…

Hi,

I’m completely new to this site…just found it a few days ago. I’ve been reading a lot of the message boards and its pretty interesting stuff. Anyway, I’ve also just started getting into meditation, have been attempting it for about a month now. I have only actually achieved a state of meditation once so far, and that was while I was high. To the point though, I was lying in bed about 2 weeks ago, and something strange happened which I cannot explain. Maybe some of you can? I’ll type it out exactly as I wrote it down that night, 5 minutes after it happened, so please excuse the grammar.

  • I lay down in corpse position, concentrating on my breathing. I kepy getting distracted a lot but kept just thinking about breathing. After a while I’m not sure what happened but suddenly I was at the entrance to this dark, damp cave, but it looked like black brick walls instead of a cave. Then I started progressing more and more into it. I, the entire time, knew it wasn’t real but my body was tensing up the entire time, so it was happening on some physical level, some sort of actual reality.
After a bit of going through the “cave” I eventually came to something like that of an altar, or the end of the cave. It was jsut a small dark pillar and then someone (don’t know if man or woman, and couldn’t see the face) grabbed something off of the altar and came closer to me. I didn’t actually see the object but I’m almost positive it was a pill of some sort (thats what I thought it was during this “energy vortex” or whatever one would like to call it). Now my body was so tense, and I couldn’t physically move, so I got really scared and had to break out of it. The person was right next to me when I broke out of it, and I never took the pill.
Also, somewhere during the middle of this event I physically closed my eyes, in real life, and couldn’t see anything but then I opened them again and was back in the cave.

If anyone could tell me anything about this, or would like to discuss it, it would be greatly appreciated. This was the first time something like this happened, and it has yet to happen again.
Thanks again
