I was going through old dream journals from six years ago. I didn’t know that I remembered these dreams, but as I read each entry I fully remembered the dream, vividly. it’s crazy to think about what stuff is hiding in our brains waiting to come out…
anyone have similar occurances? (perhaps you can try it now if you never have…read through old journals…)
Well, my oldest dreams are from 2007 (that I actually wrote down in some form), so it’s not quite as far back, but some dreams I still remember vividly, like I just dreamt them last night.
One dream in particular is still so extremely fresh in my memory that it must have had a lot of significance according to my subconscious.
But yeah, some dreams from years ago are still more vivid in my memory than some of the more recent ones. I think the key difference is that back then I used to do a little more dream interpretation than I do these days. I should get back into that habit as well, I guess. In any case, it’s amazing how much our subconscious mind can remember.
I experienced this last night as well when I was doing some self hypnosis (Victoria Wizell - wonderful hypnotherapist, do a Google search if you’re interested) for dream recall and dream interpretation (next up: lucid dream session). During the session I was asked to remember aspects of dreams that I thought I’d forgotten. I suddenly started remembering things that I hadn’t even written down in my journals.
The subconscious mind is an amazing thing.
I have similar experiences.
When cleaning out by PC backups I stumbled upon dreams from 2001 and older. Most dreams I could remember vividly.
I think it’s strange too. I only have this with dreams that I wrote as a story though. During the night I tend to write keywords on my phone or on paper. After a few weeks I can’t remember what the dream is about unless I really wrote down the dream.
Yesterday I say this in my phone: “chasing midgets --> LD?” I have no idea what it is about anymore.
Of course, writing them as stories lets the details solidify and unify, so you can just use one of them (that you remember better, since you gave it more attention) to remember the whole dream (since you put intent in linking one to the other).
Besides, I can still remember some dreams very vividly from memory as well. It’s pretty amazing, since it’s quite the enormous amount The power of the mind is sometimes mesmerizing.
sometimes I can even remember the dream even from “keywords”!
the problem sometimes with writing the dream as a story is that dreams are mostly nonlinear…
