Hello, I have recently been trying to do WBTB but when my alarm goes off I wake up and i’m so tired that I never really remember what I need to do. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this? Thank You!
First, try to time it so you wake up during a REM cycle, if you don’t do that already.
This is important for two reasons - you wake up during a dream phase, and you also tend to feel more alert when you wake up during REM, since you are in light sleep at that point.
The rest is your own motivation, really - you’ll have to spur yourself by thinking of the wonderful experience when you actually succeed with WBTB - surely that’s worth getting up for a while, right?
Also try to make it a habit to write down your dreams as often as possible - this will make you feel motivated to “save” the dream you just had so it doesn’t get lost forever.
Alternatively you can also try DEILD instead, where you go back to sleep immediately after waking up.
I find that using auto-suggestion to wake up helps a lot as I wake up naturally. When an alarm wakes me in the middle of the night I tend to wake up really sleepy and it’s hard to do WBTB. And as Laurelindo said, wanting and enjoying to write your dreams down helps too, as it’s more motivation to get you moving and write some stuff down
