Instead of using some island or something along those lines for SDing why not use a known location from RL ( For amerikans that would be either in front of the white house or the liberty statue)
Or the room or house of one of the participants of the experiment
The advantage of this is clear :one knows his room far better then an imiginary place and there is a chance meeting people randomly dreaming of the capitol and freaking them out by calling them the next day 
I Mean NO disrespect for the chroniclers or their efforts !!!

It Could work. However, to me, It is almost impossible to share dream. Mainly due to the fact you mind would have to be on the same wavelength(hard to explain)with someone to be able to be in the same dream. If you could somehow connect with someone the problem then is in the place. If you both want to meet in a place like the white house you could try. But then the dreamscapes you both conjure up would be from your perspective and as such would differ due to human error. Your version could be a diffrent color to your friend or the number of steps of windows could be wrong and as such you would each be in your own version of the white house. Although it is more likley to happen than to appear in a dreamscape someones made and only described to you, which would would be impossible to be the exact same.
