Why is it that when you try to run away in dreams you always run very slowly like you’re trapped in molasses?
Hey cool, i’m not the only one that has this happen! I’m not sure exactly why, but I think since your scared you wont get away, or you wont be fast enough, the dreams makes your thoughts real, and you become super slow.
its the classic…“oh no freddie krugers gonna get me and i cant run”, very common i guess but it never happens to me.
Running slowly has been one of my most reliable dreamsigns, but i never knew why it happens though. I guess running requires attention on equilibrium, and maybe in a ND that part of the brain is shut off. Just a guess though.
That rarely happens to me, but one time it did, I looked down to see that I was suddenly wearing an ankle-length pencil cut skirt with very little give.
It could also be the neurological firing at that time – a fancy way of concurring with Dazino, but I say it’s not so much thoughts as mechanics. It’s like how, I heard somewhere that it’s so difficult to read in dreams, because the parts of the brain we use for reading are different than the parts used for dreaming.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s dreamed long nights of reading, but when I look back on it, dream reading may not have been so much 1. see squiggles 2. link squiggles to sound 3. link sound to meaning 4. form picture from meaning… as much as 1. see squiggles 2. understand.
Maybe it’s the same for some dreamers with running-- the way of getting the same result is different, because our minds are in different gears, so there’s just as much difficulty trying to run with muscles in a world run by thought-- as there is trying to run by thought in a world run by muscle. (My computer table has a new swivvely chair that I was having too much fun with just now, so, sorry if that makes little sense.)
thanks everyone
i hate when that happens, once i was trying to catch the bus and i was running soooo slow… i didnt make it. argggg
Never happened to me, before I started with LD’ing I was always able to run away from whatever scared me I think it may depend that I actually am a fast runner IRL
You can’t escape from yourself
Still, “yourself” is also a quite limitless dreamworld, so it’s quite a long rope to be tied to
This is a common dream occurance for me, I’ll be trying to reach a destination, yet I won’t be able to reach a normal speed no matter what.
The other worse (actually cool) extreme, Is I’ll be going a bit too fast, Meaning I’ll be bouncing off walls or falling down constantly. The great thing about this is that in a couple of minutes, I’ll be moving around with ninja precision, navigating ledges, sliding down railings, doing flips. AWESOME!
Way to resurrect a three month old thread.
Thanks.
I’m new here, so all the topics are new to me.
Welcome to the forums! I’d suggest not bringing up too many old threads, most have already had any questions solved, or their topics well discussed.
Other than that, enjoy yourself!
I’ll try to keep that in mind, and thanks for the welcome Dazino.
Running slowly happened a lot when I was a child.
I was always trying to run from a monster and it was so slooowly, really annoying.
I never had that again, hope I have, since it’s really easy to recognize you’re dreaming.
ugh i hate this!
the thing is it doesnt always happen when im running away.
my last dream i had. i was walking on sand next to some sort of building. there were a ton of people. and there was a dune that i had to get over. to get to my hover float? thing. anyway i couldnt walk! i couldnt even walk! i was so frustrated i didnt even try. i just flipped my phone and pretended to text lol.
anyway i found a cure tho. when i recognize it. i go into all fours and run like im a werewolf or something. i go super fast. i think thats the problem. everything in a dream happens fast. if u dream your going for a drive. u only experience the interesting parts. but running isnt interesting. if we took our mind off of running and just went were we need to go it wouldnt be so hard. (the getting on all fours)
but when were being chased i thinking is “oh no i need to run away!” get it?
also its just a great dreamsign alltogether
I know old thread but I wanted to reply and this is by black berry I visit on so it would take to long to look up the old thread…I know in nightmares I can’t run fast from the “terror” I believe it is because in your nightmare your dream is producing your fear into a thing chasing you…and you just can’t get away. I believe this shows that you yourself havnt obviously overcome this fear and that is your brain translating it into a dream. As far as ND’s it could be your brain translating your subconcious thoughts about yourself not being able to do something important to you into reality…but really I don’t know hahahaha that’s my opinion tho
I don’t run slowly when I’m trying to get away from something in a dream. In fact, quite the opposite happens. I end up running at superhuman speed. One time, in a dream, when I was running full speed to a class that I was late too, I actually ran so fast that I flew off the ground and started flying. I’ve never ran slowly in a dream.
This may be a way to make things work out. Please post here if you attempt it in a dream ^^
