Scared Sleepless

I’m actually afraid to sleep. Naturally, this might pose a bit of a problem for one who wishes to have an LD. I think I’m afraid of experiencing sleep paralysis and hallucinations. I’ve never had them, but they don’t sound fun. D: Last night I stayed up till 3:00 listening to Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy in an attempt to calm myself down. Didn’t work. :help:

Eh. Believe me, I had that too after I read Sleep Paralysis topic and the things people have experienced. But I don’t think you should be afraid. Put it this way!

Sleep Paralysis is a natural thing. It is a natural prochedure during sleep! There’s nothing to be afraid of If I wake up into one. The hallucinations cannot physically harm me!

And from my own experience:
When I’m doing relaxation exercises and I get to SP, it doesn’t actually feel so bad. (But I haven’t had full SP by relaxing exerscise!) On my first attempt I thought it felt really enjoyable and fun, but on the same it felt unsual and uncomfortable.

And I woke up two nights ago into SP. I tried to lift my leg, but couldn’t. I did not see any monsters or whatnot! I thought it was scary when I woke up, but later that day I almost wanted to yell at my successement. It felt like a huge thing to get finally into full SP.

Remember! Even though people report seeing hallucinations, not everyone will get them at every other SP! And I think it’s really easy to fall asleep once you wake up to SP. But that’s my opinion.

And oh. Some people tell from their own experience that they usually wake up into SP when they sleep on their backs. Maybe you should sleep in your stomach or side. That how I felt safer.

But actually, when I woke up into SP, I was sleeping on my left side.

Don’t worry! Even if you feel scared on your first SP, I’m sure you can get over it and the next one will not be so bad! Good luck and I hope I gave some encourage!

Thanks so much, that helps a lot.

Listen, I know there are lots of scary things that people say about SP. I’ve never had anything scary and lots of people don’t. The trick is not to be afraid in the first place, I think. The fear will just help create the feared thing… My first SP was the worst, because I didn’t know what it was and tried desperately to move and couldn’t. But still, I didn’t see any monsters or whatever.

Now I kinda love SP! The trick is to stay calm and relax your body. What I do sometimes is to imagine a song in my head. Like, create one. I can almost hear it and it is very fun.

I believe you have an advantage here, since you know what SP is! So if you wake up and can’t move, you know what’s going on. And if you see anything scary, you can just close your eyes and imagine it away. It works, seriously! You know it’s in your mind, so you can just think about anything else… One time in SP I was being tickled and couldn’t move (terrible! lol) so I closed my eyes and imagined my body spinning away from the tickler. Well, it worked.

And, think that it is natural and that you go through SP every night, so it can’t hurt you, really.

Just my point of view.

I’ve also been afraid to sleep one day, but for a different reason. Not cool at all. So try not to worry to much about it.

eh, SP used to bother me but now whenever it happens all i think “great, this again” and i have to wake my body up but it only lasts about 5 seconds. As for hallucinations, i tend to see things when I’m im trying to fall asleep and once (in my head) someone said something funny and i came out of it laughing and im not usually AWARE that its going on but once I am it kicks me right out of it :meh:.

Sleep paralysis was one of the major reasons why I didn’t want to try WILD. But I’ve experieced paralysis a couple of times now, and it doesn’t seem too bad.
