Self aware of your own actions?

I noticed that when we dream, we usually do certain actions that we don’t pay attention but we go along with it and it came to me that we do this in real life, like a habit that you do but you don’t realize it. For example, how some people would constantly click on pens when their stressed out or bored and they will continue doing that until they do something else or how we touch our faces many times through out the day but we don’t notice that we actually are. So I’m wondering that if you become more aware of what you are doing, will it increase your self awareness and the more likely-hood of lucid dreams?

Yes, in fact there is a name for that - Lucid Living, or LL, which means that you should maintain the same awareness as you would have in a lucid dream.
One great way to do that is to actually pretend that real life is a dream, and really get a feeling of how it would be like to walk around in a dream.
You will notice that you are suddenly much more curious about things and look around, listen for sounds etc, simply because you get an illusion that reality is something unfamiliar and unexplored.
This is why small children always stare at everything around them, by the way - because they are unused to a lot of stuff, and so the world becomes very fascinating to them.
This is also no doubt the reason why children tend to have more lucid dreams than adults.

To be honest I have to point one thing out. Doing things like touching our faces, clicking pens or even opening doors aren’t really done by habit. It’s more that we actually think actively for 1-2 seconds, but forget that we thought about opening the door before us after a few seconds because it isn’t worth to remember.

wow i never thought about that. when i last had a lucid dream i remember pacing back and forth a lil bit in my house, and in reality i do that alot when i start getting bored and there is nothing to do. thx for the realization! this should help me on my next lucid dream!

And you know what? That is it! Anything we do has some amount of thought behind it, and where we get in trouble is that we simply let those thoughts go, we dismiss them immediately and forget them. Try to keep from dismissing these little thoughts. Keep them on your mind, ask if they’re normal, logical and if you do them often. The results might surprise you after a while.
