Before I went to take a nap today I lay down in my bed saying these words in my mind “I will see you when I get there” Your probably wondering why these words. Well, I wanted to meet one of my dream characters who I actually have a crush on for some reason. So I closed my eyes and said this over and over again in my head. As I got deeper into sleep I saw a vivid image of a long brown rope with a round piece at the end swinging back and forth. It was relaxing because as it moved back and forth it felt as though my body was moving back and forth. Is this self hypnosis? Or what is it because it was so vivid and realistic. Almost like time was shifting. Anyways I didn’t see my dream character but I had that as a result. I am going to try again tonight. Has anyone had any similar experiences?
I haven’t tried this before, but I think it is hypnosis since well, if your talking about what you said to yourself then i don’t think that is. but the rope swinging back and forth might’ve.
This sounds like hypnagogic imagery and the onset of WILD, the moving sensation of your body is generally the sign that you are about to fall asleep, and if you manage to stay aware you will eventually find yourself in a dream.
it sounds like you have started WILD but didn’t know that was what you were doing - you were constantly repeating the sentence, that kept your mind aware, and then you got the HI and the moving sensation.
Usually when you do self hypnosis you first suggest yourself to be deeply relaxed, and then give yourself suggestions like where you are going or what you will see.
