Seperated from/narrating dream?

Do you ever find that you’re either the narrator of or judging your own dreams?

I’ve often remembered thinking things like:

“the knight rode down the chasm. No, chasm isn’t the word… Gorge sounds cooler.”

or

“Ooh, this one is influenced by that computer game I played as a kid!”

Well, several times I manage to spot game/cartoon/anime characters or references, but I act like it’s a common thing. Picture me using magic powers and stuff and my mind I’d be thinking “hmm this looks like something [name] would do”, but I act like if he/she/it is a real person.

Sometimes I have movie-like sequences in my dreams. I remember one from when I was a kid. It involved me and some people and some vampires. It was on the third person when I was around, and when the “scene” was over, it’d switch to the vampire hideout, and the “watching” me would be the participating “me”. So I kind of knew what they’d do/were doing.

I sometimes have an experience like narrating, in which I kind of make decisions about what should happen next in the dream.
I think of this as dream composing.

Now I try to become lucid, as its more of a complete experience.

Yeah, I’ll often find myself narrating my dream as if I’m telling a story, or as if I’m talking to myself while writing the story down.

I find it hard to put that ‘2 & 2’ together. I mean, I compose it, but I don’t think ‘this is a dream’.

I know what you mean. You can use the steps from MILD to train your SC to help you switch to lucidity.

  • recall a dream you compose
  • imagine you become aware you’re dreaming
  • tell yourself next time you dream you will recognize you are dreaming
  • repeat as you fall asleep
