Shouting "increase lucidity"

Last night I had a medium-high lucidity dream [the best level I’ve had]. I don’t remember too much of it; I think this is because it was earlier in my dream cycle before I woke. Anyway, I was completely aware I was dreaming, and I tried to change something in my dream world, I don’t really remember what, and I couldn’t do it. So I did what I told myself in WL I’d do and shouted “Increase Lucidity!” as loudly as I could. Then I just woke up. I didn’t feel like I was losing control or anything beforehand.
I recorded the dream a while after this “wake up”, and I have a feeling it could’ve been a FA, especially because I probably would’ve recorded the dream right then and there in WL. Even if it was a FA, it still completely disoriented me and I completely lost lucidity.
Any theories as to why, and anyone who this has happened to? Thanks.

Sometimes I use shouting to increase lucidity… It’s not strange if you ended in FA, still this is a primary goal of FA, to fool us completely… If you used this tech for the first time it normal too not have an expected result, but keep practicing…

The more you believe the greater chances you have to achieve your goals…

Thanks. I’ll keep trying, and this is the first time. I really am realizing how much of a role confidence plays in LDing. I was feeling extremely confident when I went to bed last night and it definitely payed off. I’ll just be more alert for FA’s and I may just observe where the dream takes me for a while before I start trying to change it.

I forgot to tell you, to be more prepared for FA it’s good to do RC in the morning, that should be the first thing you do when open your eyes…

Good luck!

Thank you. I’ll start doing that!

I find that shouting “increase lucidity” ends up making me frustrated and doesn’t accomplish anything in a dream. If anything, I would recommend relaxing, reminding yourself that it is a dream, and then trying it again. For example, in two consecutive LDs, the first one I had I was unable to look down and I kept straining my neck to look down but I was just physically unable to. The one after that I experienced the same phenomenon, but instead of trying to force it, I just relaxed, reminded myself that it was a dream and I had complete control, and I was able to look down.

PS: asking for more awareness is fine, I’ve successfully asked for more clarity, but make sure you do it calmly, thats my point

Thanks. These replies are very useful. And I believe I was pretty calm; the dream felt very relaxed.

That’s odd. For me everytime I shout it, it works. Maybe you should include how high you’d like to increase lucidity. Whenever I do it I say…“increase lucidity to the max!” If that doesn’t work…then maybe you have to be more commanding? Hope I helped in some way, goodluck!

When I first tried this, it came out as a sort of urgent demand, which didn’t really help. After a few times I asked a dream charachter pretty earnestly “INCREASE MY LUCIDITY”…and he finished with “Please!”

So now, I have more success with politely asking(even if noone is there) and a calm demeanor rather than my previous sense of, I NEED TO BE LUCID NOW! haha!

This is easier said than done though, especially if I haven’t been lucid in a while. The OMG! feeling creeps back in after a long break, haha!

Shouting ‘increase lucidity’ or ‘100 times lucidity’ or anything similar hasn’t worked for me, not one single time. So I guess it’s not much about what you say as well as your attitude. When I get frustrated it won’t work, but like solpic said, relaxing and reminding yourself that you are in your own dream and anything is possible might help better. But everyone their own thing.

Like all things this seems to have different levels of success based on the individual and on their expectations. For me, shout commands have proven to be extremely effective. I’d recommend this to anyone, at least to try it.

solpic: Lucid means aware, so increase lucidity and increase awareness are technically the same thing. Still, what you perceive a word to mean can also have a big impact :content:
