Sleep paralysis, hallucinations? yeah right!

I’m just having a bit of a brain storm today and thought ill share some of my findings on sleep paralysis and the hallucinations that people say accompany them
first can you think of a other term for sleep paralysis?
some people call it astral catalepsy, really the same thing, just a different term.
some believe that when you are lucid you are astral traveling.
anyway lets now focus on sleep paralysis.
<Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the bodily paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully aware, but unable to move. In addition, the state may be accompanied by hypnagogic hallucinations.>
Sleep paralysis occurs during REM sleep, thus preventing the body from manifesting movements made in the subject’s dreams. Very little is known about the physiology of sleep paralysis…
i got this info from this site answers.com/topic/sleep-paralysis, and as you can see, from this part <Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, Sleep paralysis occurs during REM sleep, thus preventing the body from manifesting movements made in the subject’s dreams> seems no-one really knows what causes sleep paralysis, because from the sound of this, it sounds like they do not know if sleep paralysis occurs in rem or not!
i had non-rem dreams before and sleep paralysis, i believe non rem dreams are deeper states of sleep paralysis possibly?
now lets focus on the word hallucination or Hypnagogia.
to me, hallucination means that something is randomly created by my brain/minds.
i seen some weird scary crap while in sleep paralysis but were they hallucinations? some possibly, others i believe were absolutely not, ill explain.
one of my first full on sp, i could see everything, but i was scared because there was creepy laughter everywhere… just let me say, i didn’t want to leave my body at all then!.
hallucinations are meant to be random yeah? OK the laughter could been hallucination in origin, but ill continue.
there’s a man, who stands over my sleeping body, he shows up every now and then <do hallucinations do that?>
he then sticks his hand inside of my body, and i feel pain, actually it really hurts, thank god i haven’t seen him for awhile
this guy, whoever he is, is not a hallucination! his doing something! apart from what i want or wish. its this guy, this entity, that has open my mind to other ideas and theory’s.
what sort of things do you people see in sp?
please DON’T post SP experiences in this thread since we have official SP and Old Hag topics in the stuff forum
i seen the old lady once, but was shocked, i wasnt scared

Yes. Yes they do.

That’s why hallucinations can be so dangerous. Because they can be so bizarre and feel so real that you wouldn’t even recognise them as being an hallucination.

Om
yes,

eventually you will be strong enough to overcome “them”
people that mess with you

however at the same time, a huge portion of it is created by your expectations of being messed with, and its not real.

for instance if your spine is not aligned, or the body has pain, you may create the pain itself as a person attacking you

the curious question is, is it ? chicken / egg ?

is your spine not aligned for spiritual reasons, is the pain manifested as what it truly is, a being or energy of some kind ?

Om banishes everything in time.

I haven’t had any hallucinations during sleep paralysis. Is that bad?

Well unless you like being absolutely terrified to the point where you think you will have a heart attack, then no, it’s not bad at all.

It seems like you try to convince yourself that it’s actually “real”. Your body is paralyzed because of aforementioned reasons, and the hypnapompic hallucinations are a manifestation of your subconscious mind.

If you’re in a pitch dark room and stare into a mirror, you could get a similar effect called psychomantium. It’s nothing too unusual.

You shouldn’t treat the hallucinations as something bad, because they aren’t. As reflections of yourself, you should accept them. Hallucinations aren’t dangerous, but the way you react to them could be.

ok i had sleep paralysis for a long time… scary things do happen… that is until i decided to test my theory… ok when ever you have sleep paralysis you are scared right… well its all about intent… if you are scared chances are something scary will happen… but when you realize you are in sleep paralysis instead of fearing it, intend that something good is about to happen, for instance a very hot girl is about to walk over to you… and it will happen as long as you dont let you fear take over your mind… or if you just wanna wake up… relax… let go, stop struggling and lay back calmly and you will wake up once you let go, and stop trying to move… trust me everything in dreaming has something to do with intent or what you think is going to happen… plus would you feel more comfortable thinking that aliens are abducting you or would you rather believe its all in your head… for me i feel a lot more comfortable believing its a product of my mind and it will help you also over come these fears… just let go and you will see

Every time I get paralizes and I want to wake up, all I have to do is relax. Take a breah, a second for relax, and everything is okay.

When I’m paralized, I get more paralized as harder as I try to move or get out “phisicaly”.

I’ve didn’t have many aluccinations, just some voices calling my name… but I didn’t get scared… just breath.

Hope it helps,

Sleep paralysis is fucking horrible, It’s like a deliriant trip, man I’ve had quite a bit of experiences in my life and I can safely say.

I can honestly say that it’s the only thing that scares me, During SP I don’t see the old hag, I see a witch who is strangely beautiful. I’ve had a few expierances involving her but, those are for a different topic.

Hallucinations are not random. Consider you blind spots! They are large areas of your vision but the brain fills in those gaps seemlessly. That is because it is ALL in your head. But the image in the blind spot is not based on stimuli, only your knowledge. It is by no means random, but it IS hallucination. Besides, all our dreams are hallucinations, and they could produce everything you described. The man who shows up now and then can be likened to a recurring dream character. So hallucinations is a viable explanation.

The trick is to catch the paralysis from the beginning rather than “thinking” too much and letting time pass trying to figure out a way out. With time I learned how to jump or “buzz” out of my body quickly before the whole paralysis became out of my control. I can now bypass this annoying step and enjoy an astral projection instead.
The hallucinations, or whatever they are, really used to scare me a lot! I am so glad I no longer have to experience that.
