First off hey to the LD4all community, long time no see. Havent been on here since i lost most of my motivation to LD after months of no results. To the question:
Last night when i was trying to go to sleep i noticed that the hypnogognic hallucinations (think thats what they are called) started to come on extremely fast. I was just laying there for a few minutes and started to see them pretty clearly and even thought i could make out faces and such. After this goes on for 10-15 minutes i switch up positions and close my eyes again, this happened 2-3 times (couldn’t get to sleep ) Then i started to hear this whooshing noise, i had my pillow over my head so i was thinking what ever it was was pretty loud. It continued so i took my pillow off my head and sat up a bit and tried to listen and couldnt hear it. After laying back down, i heard this popping noise in my other ear. I switch up my position again and then i start to hear voices. I heard what seemed like a younger girl, an older man, and my mom. I could make out what they were saying at the time, but cant remember now. As this is starting to freak me out i try to move, at which i discover i cant. I try to move my arms, then my legs, then talk, and open my eyes, all of which i was unable to do. At this point from hearing voices and being paralyzed im starting to panic, this whole time im thinking to myself this is sleep paralysis, it has to be. While all this is going on i hear my mom walk into the bathroom, shut the door, turn on the switch as i can hear the fan running. Im trying anything to be able to talk now, i could barely move my left hand and tried to put it in my mouth to pry it open, but just couldnt. When she came out of the bathroom, i was able to make some mumbles, which i thought she heard because i kinda saw her walking in my room and heard her talking like right next to my bed. So im trying to mumble some more then i hear my front door screen open up and realize that shes not in my room, shes downstairs, this freaks me out more. This whole time im trying to move my left arm to snap myself out of it, then all of a sudden i just open my eyes and i can move. I still felt the anxiety and paranoia, i realize that my pillow is over my head, so i couldnt have seen my mom “walk into my room” period. This whole experience lasted maybe ~2 minutes or so and i was kind of scared to try to go to sleep after. This morning i ask my mom if she used the bathroom or opened the front screen door, at which she denied both.
The whole time i was having the hypnagogic hallucinations and hearing the voices i was moving. Also if it helps any, i had a weird sleep schedule that day, went to bed about 4 am got up at 9:30 am, slept from 3:30pm to 7pm and all this went down between 11:30 - midnight. So was what i experienced sleep paralysis or a bad LD?
My guess is that you were in a LD, and Because you didn’t calm down and accept that you were dreaming, you couldn’t move? I have read a few topics like this before and people do explain not being able to move no matter what they try. I think the best thing you could have done in that situation was to calm down and do a RC? Seemed like a Missed Oppurtunity of Becoming Lucid
But don’t take what I say as a fact unless you think so to, I have still yet to have a LD myself
The thing is, i dont remember falling alseep, just laying there watching the hypnagogic images. Which also puzzles me, i was fidgeting the whole time and tossing and turning, so how did i trick my body into thinking i was asleep to induce either the sleep paralysis or the LD, which ever i may have had. Also i do realize that i should have tried to perform an RC, however, how could i have? I couldnt move, talk, or open my eyes. The whole thing seemed so real and unreal at the same time. From what i have read about sleep paralysis makes me beleive that is what i experienced. But i have yet to have an LD or experience sleep paralysis, so I dont know which it was.
Well…I am no Expert But I can give you a Little Advice I guess…LD’s are extremely realistic to start with sometimes, Or you notice your dreaming in a completely random place. or around somewhere uv’e been before…Anyyway I was told a LD my girlfriend had last night, She said she woke up “in a dream” She woke up in exactly the same position she fell asleep in, she Looked around her room it was all normal she layed back in bed and something gave her a sense to look at her clock, it was something like 153:54pm. Having those Visions and actually being stuck when you really really want to move. If that happens again you really need to know your probably dreaming. Having doubt in the mind about It is a Killer for LD’s. I’m probably not helping that Much…But remember to do alot of RC’s will help you alot I guess…
I appreciate you input but would also like opinions from others. I still would like to know how my body fell asleep in the first place when i was constantly fidgeting the whole time. The further i read about sleep paralysis the more i think it is what happened.
Lasted a min or two and definitely experienced panic symptoms.
Hence my sleep schedule that day
I couldnt move anything except my hand, and that was extremely hard.
Idk, im still convinced it was sleep paralysis. Also when i woke up, it wasnt like what it feels to normally wake up. Close you eyes and open them, thats what it felt like. Hmm, i wonder if i could have had an LD that i was experiencing sleep paralysis ?
Hi Tmikey… I had SP about 2 years ago, and every detail you explained was like mine… I felt held down, the only muscle in my ENTIRE body able to move was my vocal chord, all i could manage was a grooooooooaaaaaaaaan, thats it!!!
Could not move 1 single muscle !!
My eyes were open the whole time and i horribly experienced an Alien by the side of me, i couldnt move my head to see him but my eyes could see him even thou i couldnt move anything, was really odd!!!
Anyway my point is…I got up straight away to Google (lol), and all i came up with was SP, and tlaking to others, they say the same… I do think what you expe riened was a full blown SP, no lucid about it, plain old horrible (to me lol) SP !!
Were you very tired? It may almost had been an OBE(out of body experience). It Astral Dynamics, Robert Bruce explains how when we lack sleep and are very tired it is easier for us to have spontaneous OBEs and Sleep paralysis or waking paralysis.
I was kind of tired before i laid down, however, when i actually laid down it still took me almost an hour to fall asleep. I laid down around 11, saw the hypnagogic images instantly but didnt start hearing things till about 11:30-11:45 or so.
I see hypnagogic hallucinations ALL the time tmikey…
Yet i never remember falling asleep, it feels like it is seconds before it happens, next time im going to do a RC as im poking my images…I am almost certain i havent even fell asleep, so just have to rememebr to do 1 Good luck !x
The only time i see them is if i lay in bed without moving for 10-15 mins or so, thats why i was so surprised when as soon as i closed my eyes they came on full blown (stated earlier i thought i could make out faces and such) and so quick, and i was moving the whole time.
It is odd how you have 10-15 mins before you see them and its normal to you, yet when I see mine immediately like you did this time, its rare for you lol… ok, im not good at explaining… I guess what I am trying to say is it has happened to other people(myself inc.), so dont get too bummed out by it. But the bit where you say you were moving is way outta my league so i cannot comment on that sorry… !x
Oh and when I say ALL the time, i mean as i just lay in bed, not when I’m cooking tea, or clipping me bingo wings
Even if you toss and turn your ultimate goal was to fall asleep and well your body spontaneously became paralyzed probably because IT was ready to sleep but ur mind was not.
Ok, after what happened this morning, i now believe that it may have been a LD. We are watching my aunts dog for a bit and last night she kept scratching on my door, this obviously woke me up, conveniently around ~4 1/2 hours after i laid down. As im trying to back to sleep, after a bit i hear this really weird voice coming from downstairs or the hall where the dog is. Instantly im like oh no, this shit is happening again. Sure enough i am unable to move except for my neck. As soon as this happens i stay calm and try to search for a dream/hypnagogic image. I notice this tiny white dot in the middle of my vision, i focus on it and it starts to approach me. It gets bigger and bigger, then all of a sudden it looks like my light is turned on (how im woke up in the morning) and i look around my room. I see this girl from my school, she has this huge duffle bag, like insanely huge and she starts talking to me. Instantly im thinking RC (as if this girl who i have never hung out with outside of school, let alone ever been in my house wasnt enough proof) so i look at my digital clock, it says its 35:36. Im extremely excited at this point, however, still was not convinced for some reason. So i ask her to excuse me and make my way to the bathroom to check my wall clock and thats when my aunts dog starts scratching and her collar making noise instantly pulled me out of my dream. I didnt move when i came out or anything and even tried imagining turning and rubbing my hands but it was no use. After that i just fell asleep.
Woot on my first LD, well i guess, possibly the second!
