I remember a story about a guy who killed a person whilst in the sleep walking state.
He managed to get in the car and drive all the way to her house and knife her. He awoke later while in his car, with no idea how he got there, covered in blood. He drove to his work place and stumbled in. He said to his co-workers “I think I just killed someone”.
He turned himself into the police, who were, of course, sure he had done it on purpose.
They did a lie detector test. It seemed that he had killed her without knowing what he was doing.
Some detectives did some sleuthing. They found out this person’s wife heard him making strange sounds every night in the kitchen. Kind of like grumbling, snarfling noises. They also learned of a pattern that had been happening, where he would get up suddenly during the night, then return after a couple hours.
Going on a hunch, they got a sleep specialist. They found out that he was spending over 3 times the amount than normal sleeping in the state that allows one to sleepwalk.
After putting all of the evidence together, they found that he had, indeed, killed this person in a sleepwalking state.
So I do believe that this is possible. It’s just that I question these “experts”. I’ve heard over and over on these forums that it’s impossible to sleepwalk in the REM state, the state of dreaming and LDing. Yet, they claim that that is the state this happens in.
If what they claimed were true, we’d have to worry about acting out our LDs, but we don’t because we have SP during REM, even if we sleep walk during the “deep sleep” stage.
