I haven’t had a really horrible nightmare either, but I have had a good share of paranoia-inducing nightmares and dreams that keep me on edge (usually related to my own survival).
Oddly enough, the most frightening dream I had ever had was a really bizarre one: Two oranges rolling, one smaller, one bigger and the smaller one was rolling faster. I woke up from it and I was very, VERY frightened.
It was fever induced and I was around 7 or 8 years old, so make of that what you will.
Anyway, I think that as a person matures, nightmares lose their aspect of being utterly tormenting and terrifying. I find them very fascinating.
I don’t think nightmares lose their tormenting aspect as a person matures. I myself have had many nightmares since I was a child. But I will admit, being chased by someone with a knife in a dream has never been terrifying to me. My nightmares are way too surreal for that to even scare me anymore.
A lot of people do have nightmares, but there are definitely some who don’t. I do not believe it is strange that someone does not have a nightmare. They are largely involved around our greatest fears, but it is more common for people who have lived their fears to have nightmares. I find my nightmares tell me a lot more about myself than normal dreams, though, even if they freak the bejebuses out of me.
Well, I night consider them nightmares, but it isn’t scary or anything when I wake up, although it felt like my soul was torn apart and pieced back again.
The weirdest one I’ve had is that I see some shapeless eldritch abomination floating in a whirlwind of rainbow.
I puked after I woke up but I think it’s more freaky than horrifying.
I’ve had my share of spooks from loads of poisonous spiders to gray shapes coming INTO me when in SP.
As a matter of fact, the earliest dreams I can remember are nightmares. I saw ghosts in my sleep as a child and it has somewhat had an effect on my personality. When I was little I didn’t turn my back on a certain kitchen wall IRL because my grandmother told me in a dream that a man was buried in there.
Luckily old hags have never scared me. I saw one rip up my best friend in a dream when I was maybe 9. I was paralysed and the action took place in my bedroom. I have also been killed a couple of times.
I can’t wait for new and exciting terrors to ignore.
