Some particularly interesting thought to digest...

First off, I would like to point out a few quotes that suggest you can do anything if you truly believe you can.

I got the following quotes from this website:
https://en.thinkexist.com/quotation/if_you_believe_you_can-you_probably_can-if_you/13144.html

“Men often become what they believe themselves to be. If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability to do it even if I didn’t have it in the beginning.”
Mahatma Gandhi quotes (Indian Philosopher, internationally esteemed for his doctrine of nonviolent protest, 1869-1948)

"Miracles happen to those who believe in them." Bernard Berenson quotes (American art critic, 1865-1959)

“You can have anything you want if you will give up the belief that you can’t have it.” Dr. Robert Anthony quotes (Self-help author)

"If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning." Mahatma Gandhi quotes

“If you believe you can, you probably can. If you believe you won’t, you most assuredly won’t. Belief is the ignition switch that gets you off the launching pad.”
Denis Waitley quotes (American motivational Speaker and Author of self-help books. b.1933)

“Within you right now is the power to do things you never dreamed possible. This power becomes available to you just as you can change your beliefs.”
Anonymous quotes

I would hate to bore you with quotes, so that’s all I will post. There are many pages of more quotes suggesting the same idea at the above link. The idea that if you truly believe you can do anything you can do it.
Anything? Yes. Fly, change matter and about anything else you can concieve in your mind. The trick is convincing that deeper part of ourselves, who we call our subconscious, that we truly can.
Right now if you were to stand on top of your house and consciously believe that you could fly, 100%, you would fall when you went to jump into the air. That is because the most critical part of your mind, your subconscious, would believe you couldn’t, based on past experiences and the way it views reality. However, if you could somehow also convince your subconscious, 100%, that you could fly you would. It’s not that easy however, no subliminal tape will do the trick of completely convincing your subconscious you can fly (atleast not yet in time).
This is where lucid dreaming comes into play. Let’s pretend you were a regular lucid dreamer who had about one LD a night on average. If someone were to somehow secretly rig your alarm clock up to start morphing randomly after you fell asleep you would probably awaken in the middle of the night and see your alarm clock morphing as if you were in a dream. Having not known that someone had rigged it, you would assume you were dreaming. If you are one who likes to start your lucid dreams by flying in to the air, you would do so, because you would both consciously and subconsciously believe, 100%, that it was a dream and you could fly like you have in other lucid dreams.

Sorry if I explained things poorly or awkwardly phrased things, it’s late now and I just had to post this up so I wouldn’t forget it.

Comments anyone?

Very interesting! (and I liked the quotes) You explained it in a very clear way, it’s a cool thing to think about.

Now somebody get over here and rig my clock!

Yeah. It’s actually been on my mind for a few weeks.

Pretty sweet way of going about it I suppose.

Nice post, I guess most of it is true. However the subconscious doesn’t let itself trick that easily, if you would do your test with the clock, I’m gonne bet that you won’t fly. And that is not depending on my beliefs .

Ps: moved to Beyond dreaming… it’s more related to that subforum.

Sorry, but what my conscious mind believes in 100% is the laws of physics, so I won’t be climbing up to the roof. You go first, hahaha.
Not to downplay the power of positive thinking, which I believe in, but, until something can be demonstrated to you repeatedly, why should you believe it? The problem is you WANT it to be true, but that does not make it so.

a crazy person might believe that he could fly but he still cant.

It’s not only believe that you can do it, is also for what purpose you want to do it. I believe that you have to really believe in yourself deeper in your soul and ask you the why of doing.

Well Criss Angel(st.Magician) believes in defying gravity so he has climbed up to the roof.
