Speed Dreaming to improve Dream Recall

It’s not so much a technique as just a handy trick that I accidentally figured out this morning. I didn’t see anything on this in the first few pages of the forum so I thought I’d just post about it. Might have been mentioned before and if so, sorry for bringing it up again. Anyway:

I’m trying to improve my dream recall. Typically I’ll remember between 3-5 dreams a night, but I also occasionally wake up after a dream without any recall. Today I had set my alarm for 8:00, but I kept turning it off, setting it for 10 minutes later and went back to sleep each time. Until about 9:30-ish.

In that short period of time, I had a dream almost every 10 minutes, mostly very short ones (d’uh), but some quite vivid. I went back to sleep, with the alarm set 10 minutes later about 9 times and out of 9 times I remembered 5 short dreams.

So, if you’re still working on your dream recall, and you have an hour or two to sleep in after already having had a good night’s sleep (weekends are a good time for this), try to set your alarm 10-15 minutes later and just go back to sleep, see if you can remember a dream. Since REM stages are long at this point, it’s very likely that you’re going to have a few dreams. It’s good practice.

If you’re already a master at recalling dreams, it’s not going to help much, of course :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, this process is generally refered to as “Chaining”. A great way of recalling and getting the feel of dreams indeed.

yes
it works because you go almost directly into the REM state that way.

thats a great idea. but you gotta tell me if that works again the next night. because when i find a trick, it usually doesnt work twice in a row.
but this makes sense.
