OK, we all know dream places sometimes reflect places IRL but in a more or less distorted way, right? Like when you dream of your bedroom, but the door is in a different place, etc… But have any of the distortions been permanent? Like: every time you dream of your bedroom the door is in the exact same wrong spot?
Tonight I just dreamt of a place I used to work at - it was really distorted: the buildings were OK, but the landscape was awfully wrong. The thing is I had dreamt of it some time ago, and it was the exact same place: the buildings were OK, but the landscape wrong - only thing that the landscape was identical to the dream I had tonight!
So there’s not really a question to be posed, but if anyone has any experience/insight regarding distorted places that are always the same, please share your thoughts
IIRC, recurring (unintentional) themes are sign of the same thoughts emerging in a certain situation, thus not reflected upon enough. Recurring themes in dreams try to explain something about ourselves to us; try interpreting the dream, and find the particular meaning of it.
Tosxychor, I know what you mean about recurring themes - but that usually happens in a normal dream manner: you dream of say a person or place many times, right? Usually, they are always distorted as they tend to be in dreams.
But what if the distortions are always the same (as I described above)? As far as I know this is pretty much uncommon. I wonder if there is any special meaning here.
Funny thing, I’ve just had another of those dreams today. I’ve dreamt of a place where I had acting (interpretation) classes, but it wasn’t the place as I knew it - it was distorted exactly in the same manner as I dreamt of months or years ago.
Some distortions in my dream landscapes have been the same for many years:
-There is a river between the small town i grew up in and the mountain close to it. There is a bridge over it, and a path along it going around the mountain. Rare flowers grow there. Nothing of this exists IRL.
-The beach area close to my parents’ house is bigger, has more forest, and sometimes there is a tourist hotel there
-There is a swamp next to the house
-Halfway between my apartment and my work, there is a hill with a viewpoint and a shop that is always open
-The railway station is huge and has a lot of tracks that need to be crossed
-The road between the small town and my parents’ house has many side roads, and the part close to the house is often ruined by falling boulders (that last thing actually happened irl a few months ago)
I only had one distortion in my dreams that was permanent; it is that on my street, instead of being a crossroad and then a ring of houses, the ring of houses comes first and then the crossroad
Thanks for sharing, rubiks_cube_man and Siiw. Do you think there’s some meaning or symbolism attached to this kind of phenomena? Why do some places keep changing and others not? And why do they assume a particular form that is not their real one? What’s our SC doing?
Probably we don’t have the answers, but discussing it may prove constructive!
