the Big Webhosting Quest

I’m looking for a webhost, i want to have the whole domain hosted, so we can go pro So the forum will have the url forum.ld4all.com and other cool stuff.

I have done some research… but since the site is so populair i need a lot of bandwidth, and the forum grows, so i need diskspace too.

The one i have my eye on will cost $90 a year (domain name included). For this the forum can grow 3 times the size it is now. So i think that will be enough for some time.

The reason i post this here, is because i want to know if i can count on your support. Because i hope to do this with your donations. Current donations counter is 68.15 euro’s (about 77 dollar) (With a big thank you for everybody who donated something   ).

The other reason i post this here is if you maybe have a tip for a good, trustworthy, fast, reasonable priced hosting provider. With at least 25 gb transfer a month and at least 500 mb diskspace. I have a whole list of other things it should offer but that is too long to post here

The one that is nr one on my list right now is called midphase. It has pretty much everything I want (exept shell access ) so if you see what they offer you know what i’m looking for. Maybe you know better ones. Or maybe you are the owner of a hosting company and want to host ld4all for free :cool_laugh:

:wiske: Q

www.webhostxl.com has a good plan… very dependable. I just got minie transferred there.

You should take a look at 900XL plan. It’s more than you need but at a good deal. It’s guaratted to be up 99.9% of time. Please let me know what you think of it. Also there are no contracts so if you sign up for it and in 6 months, you decided that you want to have it stop hosting there, they’ll refund any of your unused money back to you. That’s what I like about webhostxl.com

thanks, dm7!

I took a look, but i see they only do weekly backups. I find it important that backups are made daily, in case their server crashes or something and in worst case a week of postings is lost on the forum.

:wiske: Q

Unixhosting.org thinks Midphase’s the best:

Other hosts in the Unixhosting.org top 5 (less than $10):
kytec.com
ipowerweb.com
globat.com

Good idea Q to get the site on your own professional webspace, then you’re more independent and it’s worth the money. The ultimate independence would be having your own unix-server but that’s a little expensive  But maybe Stephen LaBerge is willing to do a really big donation

Thanks BrainHacker.

That’s exactly how i found midphase, thru unixhosting.org. The only thing they mention is that they gave trouble with moneyback guarantee.
The other one, #2 i send some mail for more info.

Keep them coming

Hey Q, I think you that review on unhosting.org too fast:

So all gave trouble but one, midPhase…

and on another page:

unixhosting.org/unix-hosting.shtml

:shy: ahh reading mistake, thanx for clearing that up

Oh that’s right, it’s neccessary to do daily backups especially like this active website. It was just a suggestion. Maybe you can contact the support area at webhostxl.com and see if they offer that opinion.

Just a suggestion!

dm7 i saw on dreamofpeace.net that you are moving to a new server too… which one is that? maybe i’ll go there as well  [or is that the one you mentioned earlier? webhostxl?]

midphase has probs accepting my credit card and their support can’t help me either. they promised to call me but sofar nothing. So i’m still looking.

Sounds like we’re having same problems (bad support system). I tested the new web hosting support system and it seems excellent. It’s at hostdime.com – a bit more expensive and I’m not sure about backups. 99% uptime, but support system is excellent. Replied my questions within 12 hours or even less.

And please let me know if YOU find any other good web hosting that I might like to use… please let me know. Ha ha ha, it sounds like we’re in the same boat.

And one more thing… never mind about webhostxl.com. Their support system is totally messed up! I wish I could know that earlier! I feel like I’m on a crazy roller coaster right now. lol!

weird thing is that midphase was very fast replying to my questions, but when i decided to sign up with them and it wouldn’t work, they weren’t so fast anymore

Ok so we cross webhostXL from the list

hostdime i have checked out earlier but i skipped it, can’t remember why :eh: they have another division, it’s called hasweb, has good reviews but they never responded to the questions i mailed them.

Umm interesting… webhostxl.com WAS good at replying my questions, but ever since they updated their website… they never replied to my questions for 4 weeks now actually. Not reliable!!! Grrrrrr!

I feel like I am about to give up. lol… tell me what you think of dimehost.com please. I’m not sure if I can trust them with support system… it seems that no web hosting company offer a good support system and it’s my factor that can prevent me from purhasing a web hosting plan from them.

You know what I’m trying to say?

well, i’m reading all kinds of reviews on webhost review sites, i cannot remember why i turned down hostdime, (i’ve been to countless hosting sites already to find the one with the “AHA” feeling, so far nothing yet.
so everyday i’ll click some of them and cross them off my list until i have found the right one.

webhostreview sites:
findmyhosting.com
comparewebhosts.com
hostchart.com
browsehosts.com
hostapproval.com

note: they might be biased since they have advertisers and everything. (even though they say they aren’t). i use them mainly to find host adresses and check them out myself.

also, the shops directory of paypal has a huge list of webhosts which all accept paypal.

If you found anything promising let me know  maybe i’ll split this thread sometime since it becomes a webhost discussion

Thanks, I’ll check them out later. Yeah it might be a good idea to split this dicussion up.

I gotta go home (I live at dorm at college right now and it’s weekend… my mom’s wondering where I am  ). Thanks for the links… hopefully it’ll be helpful for me to find “AHA” feeling like you do… for some reasons I don’t feel right with hostdime.com even though their support system is excellent.

Please keep me updated. Thanks… and I’ll tell you if I find any other hosting company that might be interesitng. Thanks again, I appreciate it.

I’ll be back here at dorm tomorrow so if you have anything that I need to check asap… I’ll check it out tomorrow… just to let you know. Have fun searching!

Seems to be very hard to get a really good host I see :bored: . I am searching for a host myself, experimenting with sites and I really want to get rid of Lycos :grrr: . Bad news midphase is not as expected, and if I read your experiences all those promising hosts seem to be as bad as Lycos concerning support  . And good support is a must since I don’t want to wait for a month again to get a useless response about their non-functioning “ready-to-use” interactive forms like with Lycos  .

I will concentrate on finding a really really neutral host-ranking site. If I find something promising will inform you…

Yeah, good support is a must for me too. PLEASE keep me informed too.

Ah I wish I can view that url… my network at college blocked that url cuz it says that it has some porn there?

eh, yeah, i deleted that post since i discovered at second sight it had a list for hosting companies specialized in adult hosting :shy:

Oh LOL!

That’s really funny!
