The differences between an LD and an FLD

I did search, but couldn’t find anything that answered my question.

The question is, how can you tell the difference between an FLD and an LD?

I want to say I had a LD a few nights ago, but can’t be sure. I knew I was dreaming and did an RC, it failed/succeeded (it proved it was a dream), but still, I’ve never had an LD or FLD before that so…any answers would be great.

FLDs are nasty. I’d call them partial LDs. Partial in that you have partial lucidity. For whatever reason your conscious self is not really getting through as it should. For example, whenever I have a firm intention of doing something specific in the next LD, then when I get lucid I go wild and do… other things, then I call that a FLD. I’m guessing the remedy is many RCs and a demand for 100% lucidity as soon as you get lucid.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I think the way you get lucid is also relevant. I get lucid mainly spontaneously. One moment I’m dreaming normally, the other I’m lucid. I don’t know if this happen s at the start of dreams, in the middle, or whatever. Anyway, dreams like this are especially likely to turn into FLDs. You must remember to do three or more RCs as soon as you go lucid. WILD, I believe, is a lot less likely to turn into FLD.

so would knowing that you’re dreaming but not having a really logical thought process and/or just not thinking straight, would that count as an FLD?

In my opinion, anything less than average waking-life clarity of thought and judgement is a FLD, like I said before, partial LD. Not really a fake LD per se, just a bastardized one, if you’ll excuse the term.
