The importance of dream journaling

Over the course of my lucid dreaming journey, I have tried many ways to become lucid or increase my lucidity. There are many ways to do so, as I am sure most of us know. Among the many various techniques there is one that is very simple and right in all of our faces and that is dream journaling.

I know what you might be thinking, well what do you mean by that?

Well, as I kept my dream journals and the countless dreams I have had. I started to notice patterns in my dreams, even to this day my dreams have patterns (maybe its just my dreams, you let me know if your dreams are the same if you’re reading this).

Anyway, I noticed recurring dream characters from my past. I noticed dream scenes like old houses I used to live in or places I have been before constantly recurring in my dreams. You may think, okay, but that’s just a part of the dream. Yes, it is and if we pay attention then we can use them as reality checks.

I mean, when last did you live in that house from 20 years ago? Or when last did you see your high school friend? I bet not that often in the waking reality. So, a reality check it is because it isn’t in your waking reality anymore.

Focusing on recurring things in dreams are indeed one good way to initiate LDs. For me, those examples what you gave are exactly the same: my childhood home (or sometimes places I have lived after that), my friends, or schoolmates from my school some 30-40 years ago. I have even thought about them as a good dream signs, but so far I haven’t focused on them so much to do RCs while I see them in my dreams.

But I have some other recurring themes when I usually remember to do RC and enjoy LD because of that. For example, almost every time I try to use phone in my dreams, when I hit numbers, the wrong numbers appear on the screen and I always need to correct them, but never succesfully (always wrong numbers appear, even if I choose “right” number). It’s one of the easiest dream sign for me so I almost always remember to do RC when it happens.

That’s great! Amazing how much we give ourselves to become lucid, we just have to be aware.
