The Lyrics Thread-Part III

Mad World by Gary Jules

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places
Worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going no where
Going no where
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression
No expression
Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow
No tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it’s a very very
Mad world
Mad world
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday
Happy birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen
Sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me
No one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what’s my lesson
Look right through me
Look right through me
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it’s a very very
Mad world
Mad world
Enlarging your world
Mad world

That song is so beautiful!

Donnie Darko rules.

“Mad World” is a song originally written by Roland Orzabal of the British band Tears for Fears. It was released in 1982 and reached number 3 on the UK Singles chart and later number 2 in South Africa, and was included on the album The Hurting which was released early in 1983.

Yeah, that is true Robin, but I like Gary Jules doing it, especially when it is in Donny Darko :content:

The Yew Tree

A mile frae Pentcaitland, on the road to the sea
Stands a yew tree a thousand years old
And the auld women swear by the grey o’ their hair
That it knows what the future will hold
For the shadows of Scotland stand round it
'Mid the kail and the corn and the kye
All the hopes and the fears of a thousand long years
Under the Lothian sky

My bonnie yew tree
Tell me what did you see

Did you look through the haze o’ the lang summer days
Tae the South and the far English border
A’ the bonnets o’ steel on Flodden’s far field
Did they march by your side in good order
Did you ask them the price o’ their glory
When ye heard the great slaughter begin
For the dust o’ their bones would rise up from the stones
To bring tears to the eyes o’ the wind

My bonnie yew tree
Tell me what did you see

Not once did you speak for the poor and the weak
When the moss-troopers lay in your shade
To count out the plunder and hide frae the thunder
And share out the spoils o’ their raid
But you saw the smiles o’ the gentry
And the laughter of lords at their gains
When the poor hunt the poor across mountain and moor
The rich man can keep them in chains

My bonnie yew tree
Tell me what did you see

Did you no’ think tae tell when John Knox himsel’
Preached under your branches sae black
To the poor common folk who would lift up the yoke
O’ the bishops and priests frae their backs
But you knew the bargain he sold them
And freedom was only one part
For the price o’ their souls was a gospel sae cold
It would freeze up the joy in their hearts

My bonnie yew tree
Tell me what did you see

And I thought as I stood and laid hands on your wood
That it might be a kindness to fell you
One kiss o’ the axe and you’re freed frae the racks
O’ the sad bloody tales that men tell you
But a wee bird flew out from your branches
And sang out as never before
And the words o’ the song were a thousand years long
And to learn them’s a long thousand more

My bonnie yew tree
Tell me what can you see[/size]

Everything about you is how I wanna be
Your freedom comes naturally
Everything about you resonates happiness
Now I won’t settle for less

Give me all the peace and joy in your mind

Everything about you pains my envying
Your soul can’t hate anything
Everything about you is so easy to love
They’re watching you from above

Give me all the peace and joy in your mind
I want the peace and joy in your mind
Give me the peace and joy in your mind

Everything about you resonates happiness
Now I won’t settle for less

Give me all the peace and joy in your mind
I want the peace and joy in your mind
Give me the peace and joy in your mind

Virtual Insanity
Jamiroquai

Oh yeah, what we’re living in (let me tell ya)
It’s a wonder man can eat at all
When things are big that should be small
Who can tell what magic spells we’ll be doing for us
And I’m giving all my love to this world
Only to be told
I can’t see
I can’t breathe
No more will we be
And nothing’s going to change the way we live
Cos’ we can always take but never give
And now that things are changing for the worse
See, it’s a crazy world we’re living in
And I just can’t see that half of us immersed in sin
Is all we have to give these -

[Chorus]
Futures made of virtual insanity
now Always seem to, be
govern’d by this love we have
For useless, twisting, our new
technology Oh, now there is no
sound - for we all live underground

And I’m thinking what a mess we’re in
Hard to know where to begin
If I could slip the sickly ties that earthly man has made
And now every mother, can choose the colour
Of her child
That’s not natures way
Well that’s what they said yesterday
There’s nothing left to do but pray
I think it’s time I found a new religion
Waoh - it’s so insane
To synthesize another strain
There’s something in these
Future’s that we have to be told

[Chorus]

Now there is no sound
If we all live underground
And now it’s virtual insanity
Forget your virtual reality
Oh, there’s nothing so bad,
I know yeah

Instrumental break

Of this virtual insanity, we’re livin’ in,
Has got to change, yeah
Things, will never be the same,
And I can’t go on
While we’re livin’ in oh,
oh virtual insanity
Oh, this world, has got to change
Cos I just, I just can’t keep
going on, it was virtual,
Virtual insanity that we’re livin’ in,
that we’re livin’ in
That virtual insanity is what it is

[Chorus]

Living - Virtual Insanity
Living - Virtual Insanity
Living - Virtual Insanity
Living - Virtual Insanity

Virtual insanity is what we’re living in

Citizen Erased
Muse

Break me in
Teach us to cheat
And to lie
Cover up what shouldn’t be shared
And the truth’s unwinding
Scraping away at my mind
Please stop asking me to describe

For one moment
I wish you’d hold your stage
With no feelings at all
Open-minded
I’m sure I used to be so free

Self-expressed
Exhausting for all
To see and to be what you want
And what you need
And the truth’s unwinding
Scraping away at my mind
Please stop asking me to describe him

For one moment
I wish you’d hold your stage
With no feelings at all
Open-minded
I’m sure I used to be so free

For one moment
I wish you’d hold your stage
With no feelings at all
Open-minded
I’m sure I used to be so free

Wash me away
Clean your body of me
Erase all the memories
They’ll only bring us pain
And I’ve seen all I’ll ever need

 The best Outro ever, the song once put so strong emotions in me that I wasn’t even able to cry. Bliss is awesome too and so is the rest of Origin Of Symmetry

One of my favourite bands and favourite Muse songs  Thank you for reminding me of that one.

Thanks to Bruno, for reminding me of it! :content:

Who are you to wave your finger?
You must have been out your head
Eyehole deep in muddy waters
You practically raised the dead

Rob the grave to snow the cradle
Then burn the evidence down
Soapbox house of cards and glass
So don’t go tossin’ your stones around

You must have been high

Foot in mouth and head up *
So what’cha talkin’ 'bout?
Difficult to dance round this one
Til you pull it out, boy

You must have been so high

Steal, borrow, reversing your shady inference
Kangaroo’d and hung the jury with the innocent

Now, will you weep in shades of chosen indigo?
Got lemon juice up in your eye
When you pissed all over my black kettle
You must have been high

Who are you to wave your finger?
So full of it
Eyeballs deep in muddy waters

  • hypocrite

Liar, lawyer, mirror, show me what’s the difference
Kangaroo’d and hung the guilty with the innocent

Now, will you weep in shades of chosen indigo?
Got lemon juice up in your eye
When you pissed all over my black kettle
You must have been

So who are you to wave your finger?
Who are you to wave your * fingers at me?
You must have been out your mind

Weep in shades of indigo
Shed without a reason
Weep in shades of indigo

Liar, lawyer, mirror, for ya, what’s the difference?
Kangarro, bestow(n)ed he’s guilty, as the government

Now, will you weep in shades of chosen indigo?
Got lemon juice up in your eye
When you pissed all over my black kettle
You must have been

Eyeballs deep in muddy waters
Youballs deep in muddy waters
Conjure up a lie

You must have been out your mind

Sorry for the swearing.

Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not [Alt/Indie Rock]

Well I’ve seen your eyes as they FIX on me
What is he doing? What on earth’s the plan? Has he got one?
You’d better give me some pointers
Since you are the big rocket launcher and I’m just the shotgun

Well I ain’t got no dollar signs in my eyes
That might be a surprise but it’s true
That I’m not like you and I don’t want your advice
Or your praise or to move in the ways you do
And I never will

Cause all you people are vampires
And all your stories are stale
And though you pretend to stand by us
I know you’re certain we’ll fail

Well I’ve seen your eyes as they FIX on me
Full of confusion
Your snarl is just so condescending
Try to explain that we’re onto a win
If THE FEE WE GET IN
Near recoups what we’re spending

He says, I can’t believe that you drove all that way
Well how much did they pay ya? How much did they pay ya?
You’d’ve been better to stay round our way
Thinking 'bout things but not actually doing THE THINGS

Cause all you people are vampires
And all your stories are stale
And though you pretend to stand by us
I know you’re certain we’ll fail

Cause all you people are vampires
And all your stories are stale
And though you pretend to stand by us
I know you’re certain we’ll fail

All you people are vampires

I am born again

In the neon sign
Scrolling up and down
I am born again

In an interstellar burst
I am back to save the universe

In a deep deep sleep of the innocent
I am born again

In a fast german car
I’m amazed that I survived
An airbag saved my life

In an interstellar burst
I am back to save the universe

In an interstellar burst
I am back to save the universe

Wings For Marie
Tool

You believed
You believed in moments none could see
You believed in me

A passionate spirit
Uncompromise
Boundless and open
A light in your eyes been
The end of all lies

Vacant, broken
Fell at the hands of those moments that I wouldn’t see
It was you who Prayed for me so
What have I done to be a son to an angel
What have I done to be worthy

Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescence
Difficult to see you in this light
Please forgive this selfish question, but
What am I to say to all these ghouls tonight
She never told a lie
Well might have told a lie
But never lived one
Didn’t have a life
Didn’t have a life
But surely saved one
See? I’m alright, now it’s time for us to let you go

Listen to the tales and romanticize,
How we follow the path of the hero

Boast about the day when the rivers overrun,
How we rise to the height of our halo.

We listen to the tales as we all rationalize
Our way into the arms of the savior
Failing all the trials and the tribulations,

None of us have actually been there,
Not like you…

Ignorant figures in the congregation
Gather around spewing sympathy,
Spare me…

None of them can even hold a candle up to you
Blinded by choices,
hypocrites won’t see

But enough about the collective Judas
Who could deny you were the one who illuminated
your little piece of the divine

This little light of mine, a gift you passed on to me,
I’m gonna let it shine,
to guide you safely on your way

Your way home…

Ohh, what are they gonna do when the lights go down
without you to guide them all to Zion?
What are they gonna do when the rivers overrun
other than tremble incessantly?

High as a wave
but our eyes are upon the ground.
You are a light and a way
That they’ll only read about
I only pray heaven knows
When to lift you out

10,000 days in the fire is long enough.
You’re going home…

You’re the only one who can hold your head up high,
Shake your fist at the gates saying,
"I have come home now!

Fetch me the spirit, the son and the father,
Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended.

It’s time now!
My time now!
Give me my
Give me my wings!"

Give me my

Give me my wings

You are a light, a way, that they will only read about

Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance
Burden of proof tossed upon non-believers.
You were my witness, my eyes, my evidence,
Judith Marie, unconditional one.

Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescence.
Difficult to see you in this light.
Please forgive this bold suggestion:
Should you see your maker’s face tonight
Look him in the eye
Look him in the eye and tell him
“I never lived a lie, never took a life,
But surely saved one
Hallelujah,
It’s time for you to bring me home.”

We All Know - Devendra Banhart, from the album Niño Rojo

We all know that the wind blows and the moon glows and our lungs grow
We belong to the floating hand that’s made by some animals
And we all dance so we can let go and move close and trade lows
Like the type of tongue that roots from your breast
And it shakes your pretty, little clavicle

A good friend is walking to a homeland, an inside land
And to him I said, ‘You can leave your eyes at the horizon’s dead door
Cuz you won’t need them anymore’

The children spins dawn in and the morning disappearing
They reappeared as a seed of love
You know the earth births the vegetables
We all know

Octavarium
Dream Theater

I never wanted to become
Someone like him
So secure
Content to live each day
Just like the last
I was sure I knew that
This was not for me
And I wanted so much more
Far beyond what I could see
So I swore that I’d
Never be someone like him

So many years have passed
Since I proclaimed
My independance
My mission
My aim
And my vision
So secure
Content to live each day
Like it’s my last
It’s wonderful to know
That I could be
Something more than what I dreamed
Far beyond what I could see
Still I swear that I’m
Missing out this time

As far as I could tell
Theres nothing more I need
But still I ask myself
Could this be everything
Then all I swore
That I would never be was now
So suddenly
The only thing
I wanted
To become
To be someone just like him

A Doctor sitting next to me
He asked me how I feel
Not sure I understand his questioning
He says I’ve been away a while
But thinks he has cured me
From a state of catatonic sleep

For 30 years
Where have I been
Eyes open
But not getting through to me

Medicate me
Infiltrate me
Side effects appear
As my conscience slips away

Medicate me
Science failing
Conscience fading fast
Can’t you stop what’s happening

A higher dosage he prescribes
But there’s no guarantee
I feel it starting to take over me
I tell him not to be ashamed
There’s no one who’s to blame
A second shot
A brief awakening

I feel the relapse
Can’t break free
Eyes open
But not getting through to me

Medicate me
Infiltrate me
Side effects appear
As my conscience slips away
Medicate me
Science failing
Conscience fading fast
Can’t you stop what’s happening?

[Running forward
Falling back]
Spinning round and round
[Looking outward
Reaching in]
Scream without a sound

[Leaning over
Crawling up]
Stumbling all around
[Losing my place
Only to]
Find I’ve come full circle

flying off the handle with careful with

[Running forward

Stumbling all around
[Losing my place

Find I’ve come full circle

[Root]
Our deadly sins feel his mortal wrath
Remove all obstacles from our path

[Second]
Asking questions
Search for clues
The answer’s been right in front of you

[Third]
We try to break through
Long to connect
Fall on deaf ears with failed muted breath

[Fourth]
Loyalty, trust, faith and desire
Carries love through each darkest fire

[Fifth]
Tortured insanity
A smothering hell
Try to escape but to no avail

[Sixth]
The calls of admirers
Who claim they adore
Drain all your lifeblood while begging for more

[Seventh]
Innocent victims for merciless crimes
Fall prey to some madman’s for impulsive designs

[Octave]
Step after step
We try controlling our fate
When we finally start living it’s become to late

Trapped inside this Octavarium
Trapped inside this Octavarium
Trapped inside this Octavarium
Trapped inside this Octavarium

We move in circles
Balanced all the while
On a gleaming razor’s edge

A perfect sphere
Colliding with our fate
This story ends where it began

Helpless child
They invite your hands to fill their needs
Will you be the same
Shameless smile
To steal from you the innocence that bleeds
Will they feel your pain

Trying to believe
The scars unseen
The tears wash clean
You don’t wanna breathe the air you breathe
You don’t know how you’ll live a life alone

She keeps holding on
Holding on to you
Let her breathe the air
Don’t wanna be alone
Where do you belong
Anna Lee

Behind those eyes
A vivid scene
A lucid dream within
Questioned secrets are revealed
And every time
You can’t deny
The lines that trace your skin
Wounds that never heal

Trying to believe
The scars unseen
The tears wash clean
You don’t wanna breathe the air you breathe
You don’t know how you’ll live a life alone

She keeps holding on
Holding on to you
Let her breathe the air
Don’t wanna be alone
Where do you belong
Anna Lee

And now she’s calling out a name
Can’t keep on hiding all her pain
You feel the rain move in
As you begin
To turn and answer the call

Trying to believe
The scars unseen
The tears wash clean
You don’t wanna breathe the air you breathe
You don’t know how you’ll live a life alone

She keeps holding on
Holding on to you
Let her breathe the air
Don’t wanna be alone
Where do you belong

Dream Theater are my favorite band Bruno. :gni:

I recently noticed the “lucid dream” in Anna Lee. Does he really talk about an LD or just a lucid dream? Like a pretty vivid one?

It’s an LD. The expression isn’t new and they’ve refered to LDs in other works (Metropolis pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory, to cite just the most obvious one).

SFAM… Yes, but it’s not about LDing, the conscious dream is just a tool for the story. He’s getting some kind of visions in his dreams. I’ve seen a lot of dream interpretations of DT songs in the Lucidity Centerstage and I always thought I knew the correct meanings of the songs and there was never any song with that subject. But maybe it was just nothing special for me, because I wasn’t familiar with the term lucid dreaming. Can you tell me what else song you think is about dreaming?

When you were here before
Couldn’t look you in the eye
You’re just like an angel
Your skin makes me cry
You float like a feather
In a beautiful world
I wish I was special
You’re so * special

But I’m a creep
I’m a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
I don’t belong here

I don’t care if it hurts
I want to have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul
I want you to notice when I’m not around
You’re so * special
I wish I was special

But I’m a creep
I’m a weirdo
What the hell I’m doing here?
I don’t belong here

She’s running out again
She’s running out
She runs runs runs

Whatever makes you happy
Whatever you want
You’re so * special
I wish I was special

But I’m a creep
I’m a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
I don’t belong here
I don’t belong here
