Okay, my idea goes like this. Some people have night terrors, and they are horrible (but usally not for them, for the people living with them). But they occur during stage 4 sleep.
So for anybody that wants to, my idea is to test if night terrors can be made lucid. Have everybody that has night terrors participate in this and then post their results with their first lucid night terror. I wanna know if this works.
Seems like an intriguing idea but it does seem very difficult to achieve practically. As the name suggests, night terrors are truly terrifying experiences. It must be hard not to let yourself be carried away by primal impulses of survival, ignited by that dreadful fear. Which techniques do you think will help to become lucid during such a moment? Furthermore, it’s happening during deep sleep, so it must be a lot more difficult to become lucid then. If there’s a not-too-difficult way of overcoming these problems, and if you find enough people who experience night terrors and who are willing to experiment on them, I think this can be a very interesting experiment.
During stage 4 sleep we are in delta, which is the most unconscious part of sleep. I wonder if terrors really happen here (doubt it, probably stage 3 or lower). However in the unlikely event that they do, becoming lucid will be hard to impossible.
Night terrors usually occur with toddlers and small children, so I think you may have a hard time on finding someone of 15 or older who still has these experiences.
You just pointed to the whole point of this experiment. can you become lucid in night terrors? And if so, how will it effect you? Will you go utterly insane? Or will you kill the monster, providing a light you’ve never seen before? That is what i want to know. (I knew they take place during delta sleep.
I am not exactly sure what you mean by the difference between a nightmare and a night terror even though I read it, well it doesn’t particurly matter.
anyway I have had nightmares or scary dreams and been lucid and been aware it was a dream, but because the subject matter was too scary or I fear it, I was unable to change my perception of what I was seeing. I knew what I was seeing was unreal but naturally when I am awake I fear it, so it is hard to break your fear when you are dreaming.
If your wondering, what exactly the fear I have is; it isn’t anything specific but on the occasions when I have had a nightmarewhich I can remember it has been based on the monster from the japanese version of “the grudge” and insects such as flys, wasps, bees.
Night Terrors and Nightmares are completely diffrent in a big way. First of all; Night Terrors are FAR scarier then plain old nightmares. Second, they occur durring stage four sleep (normal dreams occur during stage two sleep; including nightmares.). And Final, Night Terrors are genetic, and are often nott remembered by that person that had them. The reason we know they exist is because the people living with the person can hear them screaming.
