The WILD is not enough

I’m a total noob to the LD scene. I found out about it a couple of weeks ago and have been attempting WILDs ever since. but that’s all. now i know I should be putting more work into it, but whatever. i just want to ask some advice on a problem i’ve been having.

Fact is, every time i lay down and start counting, i get an itch about the time i get to “seven”. I scratch it, adjust my position, and start counting from one again. this goes on for about fifteen minutes until i finally lose focus and fall asleep. Any suggestions as to what i should do?

The only thing you need to do is to concentrate on the counting and IGNORE the itching or other obstacle. I think that these things like itching is when the physical body is testing you to see if you’re still wake up; so itching is a common obstacle on WILD’ing.

Bottom line: Don’t think in the itching just concentrate in the counting and your goal.

Itches and other irritants are one of the hardest things to overcome when doing WILD. Like the person above said you just have to ignore it. If you use a progressive relaxation technique before you start counting that to might help as well.

Good luck and happy dreaming

Thanks a lot guys! I’m sure it crossed my mind that i should just ignore it, but i’m a creature of instinct that does what it feels like at any given second. I do have willpower, though, and i’ll definitely follow your advice when i try again tonight.

No problem,

Hi,
If you’re new to lucid dreaming it might be a good idea to try some of the other methods first (such as MILD in combination with the sleep/wake/back to bed method) as the WILD method can be a very hard one to succeed at - even for people who have been having lucid dreams for a long time. Some people seem to be able to have WILDS much more easily than others, but if your not one of these people it might be a good idea to develop some of the other methods first and build up your confidence before jumping in the deep end so to speak.
Hope this is useful…

after two weeks, i’ve been starting to catch on to that, but i’m used to studying to the point of exhaustion and have to wake up at six for school, so i don’t think i have time for WBTB. i figure i’ll practice WILDing and improve my dream recall until school lets out, then work at the other methods over the summer. it’s only a couple of months, anyway.

Just hang in there and keep practicing. Doing WILD is possible at bed time you just have to have patients with it.

You could also do A different version of WBTB/WILD by waking up after say 5 or 6 hours sleep then go right back to sleep using WILD. You don’t have to spend too much time with relaxation since you are already relaxed and you can slip into a dream very quickly. The beauty of this is that you don’t disrupt your sleep.

Yeah Milod i think that is a supereffective approach to WILDing, since i’ve had 3 out of 3 attempts work using this method  , whereas just attempting it before i sleep is very difficult and tends to just make me sleep lighter throughout the night. Though i do believe it can be done, it is just very very hard for me to do

Dude, i did it. I got a Lucid Dream that lasted a really long time! (I wasn’t used to it, so i had trouble controlling it, tho… I was afraid to close my eyes because i thought i’d wake up, so i didn’t get to do much more than fly around and tell people on the street that they weren’t real…It was fun though!)

No, i didn’t do it successfully with WILD, but through a lucky reality check and believing in myself…aww…

well, just thought i’d let you know!

It most definitely can be done! I have done it, jeff, Dm7 and a few others have done it. It is tricker and takes more patients to do but it can be done.

Try to practice both times.

Congratulations on your successful WILD’s

Thanks Milod! … i think i’ll read more techs before attempting again before i sleep. I did get cool HI but that took like an hr … sigh

Good luck and let us know how you progress.

Remember don’t give up on doing WBTB/WILD since that is already working for you. I recommend practice at both times.

I have recently tried WILDing which allowed quite a decent experience to happen. I had a really great OOB which lasted a minute . This is however after keeping up my older MILD and WBTB stuff up for the last few months. Been talking to my DC’s a lot and done some flying as well. My advice is simply to keep it up. The longer and more you do it, the better it becomes, and the more you can do. I like LDing so much its basically become part of my general life.
