This topic is actually very much like some of the previous, but anyway…
Last night, I had a dream. I was standing in a long street, which seemed like a collection of schools somehow. Very soon, I said to myself: “This is a dream… I’m dreaming and I can do whatever I want!” And so I did. The funny thing was, before I went to sleep that night I said to myself: "Funny, I’ve been close to a LD a couple of times, yet I haven’t thought of flying in any of those almost LD’s. But in this dream, the first thing I thought of was: I should try flying this time! And I did. It kind of worked, but I had trouble with not falling down. I tried the Superman Fire Under Your Shoes Thing, you know, but that didn’t work (yet) for me, haha. I also remember I shouted: “Increase Lucidity!” a couple of times. It worked, but not like I’d hoped. I just loved the dream! And when I woke up (which was directly after the dream) I was very enthousiastic. BUT, I think that was a false awakening, cause I didn’t remember like doing that at all when I really woke up.
However, my problem is, when I really woke up, it didn’t felt like I really had a LD, because as always, I remembered everything, but it just didn’t seem very vivid anymore, and I was wondering whether there are methods to get rid of that problem. I mean, it’s not that I don’t remember my dreams, the problem is that when I wake up, I don’t have the feeling anymore that they were vivid, like I really WAS there you know. Maybe you guys have some tips for me
Well, I would say that this was possibly your first lucid dream because of the way things were carried out.
When we find ourselves having our first LD most of the time we become so excited that we wake up…
Its good that you didn’t wake up and you remembered that you could say “Increase Lucidity” to make things a bit more clearer in the dream world.
I say to you, good job for remembering all of that on your first LD, my first one was not nearly as involved as this one was by any means. (Funny how i can still remember it and it was like quite some time ago)
I would like to ask what you mean when you say…“When I wake up I dont feel like they were as vivid”…
I mean, I guess I really dont follow what you are trying to say but I kinda do … (its late/early…no sleep tonight)
Some things that I would suggest to you are try rubbing your hands together when you first become lucid. This helps tremendously to get a feel for the dream world, and to keep yourself lucid. Sometimes you dont need to do this but one time in a dream. Other times you might find yourself doing it more like 5 times within one dream…
I’ve found that the more I do this the longer the LD will last.
Also I would suggest stamping your feet…I know…sounds crazy…But because you are establishing a link with yourself and the dream world, it tends to keep you gounded, not in a sence that you are stuck to the ground but…You know
I look forward to hearing about many more LD’s.
Congrats on your first LD, and just keep those simple things in mind when you have your next LD…Rub your hands together like you’re trying to get something sticky off of them…and Stomp on the ground… And I think over time you will have much longer LD’s.
I noticed too that when you lose lucidity and return in a normal dream, your memories are not as vivid as when you wake up immediatly after a LD. Generally, you can’t remember details well, etc.
Perhaps, when you just wake up, your dream is still in the short term memory, and it’s in the long term memory when you wait to long before awakening, or something like that. I don’t think there are tips in order to make your memories more vivid, or al least I never found them…
It’s difficult to describe but it’s like… When I’m having the dream, I really feel like I’m really “there”, I’m IN it. Colors are bright, everything is very detailed, like the real world. But when I wake up, I do remember every detail of the dream, except for the vividness in terms of colors. I feel like it was a real long time ago I had the dream, and when I think of it, I don’t see the colors as they were in the dream, although I do remember them, it’s more like a gray mass in my memory. Probably a sort of recall problem, I don’t know. But I’ll try some things out. Maybe some autosuggestion like: “When I wake up I’ll remember every single color and I’ll remember the vividness like it was in the dream” (only a bit shorter and more to the point so that it will be more easy to remember). I’ll also try some things out with the alarmclock, to see whether I’ll remember the colors and the vividness better when waking up just after the dream. Another possible solution (just a guess) is a variation of something I read in LaBerge’s “Exploring The World Of Lucid Dreaming”: To really pay attention to shape, color, movement, smell, sounds in daily life, so that when I’m dreaming I’ll really NOTICE and be aware of the shapes, colors, etc. We’ll see
Anyway, thanks for your replies guys; they’re appreciated
I understand exactly what you mean, Dennis. I get that too… I think that is normal, because, imagine you DO remember your lucid dream very vividly… you might think it actually happened in real life I think our brain decreases the vividness of the memory of any dream so to not mix them up with our waking life dreams.
Or have you had dreams where you remember them more vividly that after a lucid dream, as you say? In that case, I’m not quite sure…
Think back five minutes ago. Your memory of whatever happened will not be as a vivid as when it was actually happening.
Try it again, with a different memory. Try and incident you remember well.
Once again, you’ll find that the memory is not as vivid as when it was actually happening.
I once Woke up by thinking “I`m dreaming”!
But then I had laid and gone from awake to dreming in about 2 hours.
It was in the weekend so I could do that.
Was that ld?
Thanks. Now that I think of it, it does make sense what you’re saying haha. So that’s the case with all you guys? Or is there anyone where who does remember his dreams very vividly?
