Thoughts, can't quiet them.

I have lucid dreams on and off, i’ve had a few OBEs and one astral before… My favourite method to employ is the WILD, because it’s very reliable. But i seem to have a problem. I can’t seem to be able to relax my mind, when i’m in bed i get swarmed by thoughts of just about anything and everything. And either i get distracted by them and sleep without recognising Hypnagogia, then wake up the next morning kicking myself, or get annoyed because of it so I find myself unable to relax and fall asleep. It’s hard to find a balance. Most of my LDs and OBEs have been on purpose but only when i found myself in that sweet spot where i could relax enough to descend smoothly into the dreamstate. Any advice on doing this more often?

Do you use a mantra? Because that can be very helpful. Without a focus of attention the thoughts are much more alluring to get caught up in. It also seems to quiet the thoughts down.
I used to try to stop thinking, I found it impossible. It’s simply becuase you you are trying to not pay attention to something, you ARE paying attention to it. The trick is to let them be.

what is a mantra? i have the same problem as SoulOfTheReaver

A mantra is a word or sound that you repeat to help you focus, it is generaly somthing with a pleasing and soothing tone and its a good idea to experiment and find your own to help you the most.

Well i’m Christian Orthodox, so i’ think i’ll try the famous Jesus Prayer “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, the sinner”. It’s used like a mantra prayer in Hysichastic (christian mysticism) meditation and i do it quite often for purposes unrelated to dreaming. But it does calm me quite a lot, and maybe it’ll help with the descent to dreaming. Yeah i’ll try that. Thanks for the tip Kraka and Bleh :smile:
