Hey, im new to this site and wanted to introduce myself and share my story.
(if im posting this in the wrong place please forgive me, i couldnt find a specific place for this)
So ive known about Lucid dreaming for a very long time but never really cared about actively trying.
Ive only had one ludic dream (that i can remember) I realized while flying that i was dreaming… when i knew i was dreaming and actually tried to “conciously” fly i couldnt get off the ground and woke up shortly after.
This dream was roughly 7 years ago…
After recently doing research thinking i was having seizures in bed… i found out i was experiencing sleep paralysis…
It happens a few times a month…after a loud “bang” that seems like it wakes me up, and i lay there pulsing…feeling terrified…unable to move.
I usually just take deep breaths…close my eyes and go back to sleep.
Ive recently decided i want to actively try to lucid dream and have been doing a reality check (i have a small letter “A” on my hand to remind myself though out the day to ask myself “am i dreaming?”) for the last 2 days.
This morning after falling back asleep, i actually did it… i remembered while dreaming to ask myself “am i dreaming”. I realized i was and felt a huge rush of excitement everything went white and sparkly and my daughter hit me in the face with a toy… woken up…
I realized i have no one to talk to about these experiences… and well found myself here… so Hello!
I would love to hear others opinions on how i’ve been doing, and what i can do to improve… especially on possibly utilizing the sleep paralysis to lucid dream.
Hi there, sunny! I’m a little less than new to the concept, but this is prolly only my 2nd posting on the site. Because of my own stubborn nature, I try to look at dreaming from a scientific perspective. I’ve done a lot of research as well, and usually cross-reference with actual experiences with real people; which makes this site perfect!
Also, the loud bang that wakes you up, definitely not a seizure, but have you figured out what it is yet? If not, get on wikipedia and look up “exploding head syndrome” and see if that’s similar. Don’t worry, lol, it isn’t a scary thing.
I thought i was having seizures due to the pulsing/body convulsions and not being able to move.
Ive never heard any spontaneous loud bangs through out the day… so i dont know about the exploding head thing.
I never really heard the noise… but i get startled awake as if ive just heard a loud noise… all the research ive done points to it being part of a hypnagogic hallucination from the sleep paralysis.
i often hear a soft buzzing that seems in time with the pulsing/body convulsions.
Ive read of some people hearing deafening noise or experiencing very scary hallucinations of dark figures and hearing voices.
Luckily ive never seen anything scary…because im a wimp when it comes to scary movies
Ah, i now understand SP can be a pretty freaky thing, just browse around on here and notice everybody else opinions. There’s no general consensus on it other than that it has a general connection to a certain sleep stage. Personally, i don’t achieve it very often, but it does bring on a very distracting sort of tachycardia when i start getting there. And a particularly frustrating hypnic jerk once and a while
