I’ve been researching this subject alot. Did you know people with alot of stress sometimes feel as if time is slowed down? Why does time seem to slip away when having fun? Is sleeping the only way to skip time 10 hours? I love the concepts of this.
Now here’s something to try. Find a song with a strong beat. Something you can tap to. Now concentrate on the beat and feel in your mind the beat getting slower. You should hear the song playing slower. Now up the tempo. Song plays faster. It also works better before bed and in the morning.
I can get pretty noticeable time distortions when I play some hard song on StepMania, or I do some audio meditation ^^ you can go back to hear it and it’s 20% faster O_o
When I spar or do board breaking demonstrations in martial arts, I often perceive time much slower. Its not like in the movies where everyone is moving like a turtle, and its also very variable. The more and faster moves I am doing and the more determined I am to do them swiftly, the slower I feel times passage.
It isn’t much, but it is just enough time to adjust my kick/whatever an instant before hitting. I’ve left people wondering “What…but…how’d you get through my arm!?”
Or one more notable time, I had missed 3 times on a really cool demonstration…with a rather LARGE audience, including my instructor, master, grand master, and grand grand master who had come over from Korea. I was feeling a bit embarrassed to say the least.
I stepped back calmed myself and went for one last try. as my foot was about 3 or 4 inches from the board, i realized my mistake and was able to correct it.
For an idea of how fast I was actually moving, the board broke into 4 segments, 2 held my the holder, one flew about 20 feet up and hit the ceiling, and the 4th straight across the high school gym(/basketball court) into the higher rows of the stands.
The odd part (I think) is that I’m aware of the PROPER speed of time even when it slows. So I can judge how fast my opponent will move, even as I’m moving faster and faster.
I’ve never tried that kind of audio meditation though…I should…
Sometimes, at the end of my evening run, I’ll start to speed up my run, and every body slows waaaaayyyy down. I mean like people walk slow, tones drop, and oddly lights get brighter. WritersCube first dream in his DJ was 2 weeks long, so its def possible. When I was on a 4 month meditational experience, I had this mode where I went into hyper awareness…I could see, feel, touch, and yes time was slower. There is no limit I think in the dream world, because we can access higher dimensions, and thus, “extra” time in a sense, but when we perceive the “real” world, we have to rely on electrical activity, and we don’t have purely optical brains so…only 1840 m/s limit. Time has definitely slowed down for me though, it wasn’t me remembering it slower, as I can do this also(like play back an event in slow-mo, although I don’t have extremely particulate vision yet), but people were walking slower, and their voices were lower. Heck, I might be perceiving reality imperceptibly faster than everyone else, how am I to know? I can’t see from their vision, and if it is very small, then I don’t know how we could measure it at the moment. Note:my movements weren’t faster, I just perceived time slower, and so even a relaxed catch was still “fast” because time was “slow”. Its all relative, you just have to train your mind, also afterwards I had a pounding headache, and their was a lot of pressure on the brain during. Speaking of hyper awareness mode. In fact I stopped because I didn’t know the health benefits of processing information at that speed . But I am going to restart, and I ll keep you posted. Namaste
I would stare at a spot on the ground, and focus on “sucking” in more and more light into my eyes, breathing deeper and deeper, faster and faster. I would also increase my awareness of my surroundings, also increasing the particulate sounds until I become “lucid” haha, or in the hyper awareness mode. Also I start forcing myself to process information faster and faster, so I’ll focus for a millisecond on one object, get all the information from it, then jump to the next, then the next, then the next, then the next. boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom. Eventually a pressure builds up in my forehead, and I enter into hyper awareness, or perhaps, “lucidity”. It is hard to explain how I become intimately aware of times passage to the point of it slowing down, and all my senses get jacked up. But anyways, hope this helped. Namaste
The closest I’ve ever gotten was when listening to a song, I slow the beats down in my head so the song sounds like it’s tempo is slower. Nothing too drastic. I really want to be able to slow time right down though.
I got close. It was extremely hard. I sat down on a bench outside the cinema today and concentrated, keeping my eyes focused on one of the stones in the pavement. I let my mind be spacially aware, absorbing all light surrounding me, letting my mind make up a picture of what was infront, behind and in my peripheral using my other senses. I focused my breathing. Everything shockingly slowed down a small amount, I immediately looked up and time continued at normal pace. In that small moment I felt extremely uncomfortable at the front of my forehead, is this normal?
Thats exactly it brother. Thats exactly what I do, and the uncomfortable pressure…Is normal for what you are doing lol. You are increasing the processing frames per second that your conscious mind perceives, so it is going to feel odd. I’m not sure of the health benefits though . Anyways, good job brother, Namaste
During times when you need deeper concentration, your brains processing speed increases more dramatically causing time to seem like it’s moving much slower. It may seem like everyting is going slower but in actual fact it’s your brain that’s working faster. One way of pecieving this is that your eyes would recieve more frames per second giving you much more reaction time between the still images processed. I believe the correct terminology for this phenomena is called “time dilation”.
Flies are said to have a pretty quick natural processing speed due to the annoying fact that it’s so hard to swat the bloody things!
I endure in order to enchant
transcending receptivity.
I seal the output of timelessness
with the cosmic tone of presence.
I am guided by the power of endlessness.
I am a White Cosmic Wizard (Kin234) manipulating time is my speciality.
I often find when I am getting really into something, my mind becomes pro-active, I concentrate harder and become more aware and grants me the power to alter time in a small way. I mostly notice this when playing computer games, if i get really “in the zone” I can slow down time and dominate everyone with great ease. This may just be what Dreamfox has just described, but I often wonder if being a white cosmic wizard has something to do with it.
Someone did an experiment on time dilation (i would include the link, except i forgot it) by having some test subjects be released from 130 ft up in the air and free fall without any harnesses or equipment at 70 miles an hour, then estimate their time. then they set a watch to change numbers at random too fast for the eye to follow, then had them fall and in mid air see if they could read the numbers. The test results were that in retrospect, time slows down, but while actually falling, it doesnt.
I believe this test to be flawed, because the second time they couldve experienced less fear, and having to look at the watch in the span of 3 seconds was distracting from the fear.
