Meditation, trances, self-hypnosis…it all blends together.
How do you get into a trance? Is it through meditation, or some other technique? All this is confusing.

The grade of trance reflects your brainwaves, the deeper the trance the slower the waves and the more relaxed you become. So you could say that every moment of consciousness is a stage of trance. But your question was how to enter the deeper levels. Meditation is indeed a very good technique to do this and it is used very often to get into a medium to deep trance. Also, the deeper into trance you are, the easier it seems to be to apply (self)hypnosis (im not sure to which extend this is true since I didnt experiment with this a lot yet). But if you need some meditation techniques you could always ask here, many people have their own tech’s and/or know good internet sites about it. Hope this made it a bit clear.
its not hard at all really to get into a good trance, you dont even have to sit all fancy like either, for beginners just try breathing really deep in…and then out…breathing in deeper and deeper, exhaling slower and slower… focus on nothing but how relaxed you feel and how comfortable you are, do not move your body at all cause this will cause you to loose concentration, instead imagine that you dont have a body at all, if you have an ich ignore it entirely, ignore your whole body entirely for that matter, just be relaxed but conscious and patient, in no time at all you’ll be in a good vibe or “trance” opening your mind to suggestions, just repeat the same simple intent over and over, “like i will have a lucid dream” or something like that…and above all believe in yourself in every aspect of sleeping and waking life!
Ahh, thanks. I’ll have to keep up with the meditation. Unfortunately that relaxed feeling I get after I’m done never seems to last long. It seems I put in more than I get out, which is discouraging.
try not to think of it like that, you have to want to meditate, meditation isnt really for relaxing anyway, but if you consist the breathing you will feel your body kind of shrink, its hard to explain though but disipline is the key…do you practice and form of martial arts?
Nope. I’m not really into that whole “physical activity” thing.
According to who? It totally depends on what you intent to do. Huge masses of people ‘just’ meditate to relax, did you know that?
Also, if you find meditation hard, try a guided meditation, for example with BWgen theta (5hz), it works quite well for me actually.
what exactly is a trance anyway?
there is mind awake/body asleep, which is a “kind” of trance, and it feels exactly like being awake feels, except for the paralysis.
there is the I’M ABOUT TO FALL ASLEEP AND CAN’T FO-----… 30 seconds later … cus… ?
“trance” but it’s “passive” or… more accurately, you aren’t really “conscious” in it… it leaves tons of gaps… in your…
thinking… and mantras… and you kind of forget everything when you come out.
there is “damn i’m relaxed and i don’t want to get up for school” … which could be considered a trance…
I don’t really understand the notion of a “proper meditational trance” … i need to find a meditation course to take or something.
I think I’ve reaches a trance state a few times. It feels very strange and it almost feels like your body is moving even if it’s completely still. Or like it’s something else moving, sort of like your soul wanting to go out of the body or something. Other times it feels like I’m beeing streched out until I’m so tall that I almost reach the roof. And at times I also get this sort of tingling sensation in almost my entire body. I atleast think all these are some sort of trance strate, but I’m not sure
I usually get them when I focus very intensly on something for a long time. I used to feel streched out when sitting completely still for a long time while watching tv. But it’s also happened to be while reading something very interesting on the computer, but then I get the tingling sensation. And if I relax and focus on counting and visualizing each number as I count them I get the “body moving” thing. I always love getting these “states” because they so interesting and sometimes very comfortable too
Don’t confuse a trance with your level of awareness. A trance is different for anyone anyway, depending on your focus, your intention, etc. Also you can be lucid in a trance or you can become kind of drowsy and just go with the HI / visions. Feelings of energy also differ from time to time and from person to person. So what is trance then anyway, besides lowered brainwaves? At least we can say it has some common features for everyone, like being in a relaxed body and mind state, being able to feel your inner energy better, heightened psychic senses / abilities etc.
Also the mind awake / body asleep trance is the same as a LD. Sleep and trance are nearly similar anyway the difference (not counting differences in awareness) is just that in sleep your body is asleep and normally in a trance it isnt. The effect of body asleep though, is that visual association is a lot more easier (caused by different neurotransmitters which activate when body falls asleep).
i guess, but i just think meditation has many more uses than just relaxtion, but of course people do it just for the relaxtion
Well what about when people “space out?” is that a form of a trance? because the way i feel when i space out, reminds me of a trance. I mean, i am not aware that i am even living a physical life. My existence seems to be completely internal. Internal as in living in my own head fron thought to thought through the entire duration of my “spacing out” experience. And then all of a sudden something will bring me back or i will just snap out of it.
Spacing out can be a trance (its pretty easy to go into a light trance, or alpha stage, happens already when u relax a bit). However focussing on internal thoughts doesnt say anyhting about that.
