Honestly, my passion is having a bed right in front of the tv, with nothing but good shows on all day, getting to lie there and watch it for hours. However most of TV typically sucks but sometimes theres good stuff on.
Oh, and Chinese food.

And that’s coming from the guy that said we need to throw our tv’s out the window!
Guilty as charged. Frankly at times it can be a nice way to not have to think at all.
Though, I stay true by not watching the filthy commercials.
All commercials are disgusting, but American ones are so gross I want to puke.
Good
I don’t even watch tv anymore, except maybe the history channel, discovery, civ etc.

I watch some good shows, but I ALWAYS tivo them and then fast forward through the commercials so I don’t have to watch that insincere, disgusting, self-centered, fear-consumption equation propoganda BULLSHIT!

I really only watch History channel, Travel channel, Futurama, NatGeo.
And boy do I wish I had tivo to skip through the commercials. It’s really amazing that 99.9999% of the population doesn’t get enraged at the fact that you get to watch 5 minutes of a show, then 2 minutes of people advertising to you.
It’s the most ridiculous thing but people never really think about it.
Just out of curiosity, how would you set it up so that the people making the shows get paid? Or are you just advocating less commercials, rather than none at all?

This is the unfortunate truth about it all.
In my opinion, put the commercials BETWEEN shows. Ten minute break.
Of course it will never happen because companies won’t be able to sell all their crappy “Call within the next 10 minutes and we’ll double the order, only 19.95” junk.
Television exists for the commercials. Gotta make the shows interesting to make sure the people get advertised to.

It’s not the number of commercials that enrages me, it’s the disgusting content located in them that does.
My issue is that, one THIRD of the time you spend watching TV, is companies advertising to you.
My issue is that, one THIRD of the time you spend watching TV, is companies advertising to you.
My issue is that watching TV turns you into the mindless American who can’t think for himself, just the American the government wants you to be.
Especially the news. It’s absolutely terrible. The news will say that gas prices have gone up and all of a sudden its an ad for a fuel efficient car, or news that Bush is sending more troops to Iraq and then a commercial for viagra comes up so you can get it up so you can have sex with your wife so you can have a baby so Uncle Sam can take that baby away.
I don’t hate America. I loved it in the beginning. I hate what it has allowed itself to become. Come on America. You’re much better than this.
TV’s only perpose is advertising, plain and simple. A medium companies use to advertise a product, they put shows in there to keep you watching.
It drives me bloody INSANE! I’ll be watching Prison Break, it’ll come back after a commercial…then a few minutes later, it’ll go to another commerical session. I just say “Didn’t it just come back from the dumb commericals?”
Its really annoying and a waste of time.
In response to the last 3 posts:
Dead on.
And another thing that pisses me off is that Canadian channels (CTV, CBC) are all government channels, which are funded by taxes only.
So basically, we’re paying for it too.
Meh, I’ve always liked the CBC, and that’s saying something, considering I’m generally conservative and they’re pretty liberal. I’ve always liked HNIC (hockey night in Canada), but losing the theme was a catastrophe. Just pay the 3 million, dammit, the majority of people in Canada would prefer that.
If they put the commercials between shows, nobody would watch them. I suppose they could put advertisement in the actual shows, product placement, but I don’t know if I’d prefer that. I like zoning out and thinking about something else, or leaving the room, rather than be completely force fed. With ads in the show, there would be no way to avoid it. "Hey guy from prison break, we need a break! There is no better way to get a longer fulfilling “break” than with a kitkat! cues music BREAK ME OFF A PIECE OF THAT KITKAT!!! “Ahem, anyways, the guards will be coming in a few minutes…”
I try to limit my shows to:
Kenny vs Spenny (favorite)
The Simpsons
King of The Hill
King of Queens (over but still funny)
History, Discovery, Civ, Geo etc…
Trailer Park Boys (lol)
I don’t watch commercials, and use to the time to do something. Even if commercials didn’t exist, i think i would want some breaks between watching shows. So that’s the other side of my arguement.
i don’t watch much TV.
but i actually don’t mind commercials.
i go get a drink or something.
it’s nice to have breaks in between watching shows.
and it means we don’t have to pay for TV.
