UnLucid Dreams.

moved to stuff from quest since they are a form of normal dream since you aren’t aware that you are dreaming :moogle:

Recently I’ve had some of the most vivid dreams of my entire life. The change happened when I stopped calling them ‘dreams’ and instead called them ‘fragments’. This semantical change seemed to have instigated an important subconscious change in my mind, since what I remember is now but a fragment of what I’ve actually experienced; to call them dreams suggests they are complete, which I don’t think they ever really are. Not for me at least, since they always pick up in the middle of some extremely incoherent time-line.

Just the other night, however, I experienced dream thoughts and rationalizations for my actions. Even though I thought the world was real, as strange as it was, I was nearly conscious, and I was at least in control of my own actions within the dream. This was also the first dream I’ve ever had where I’ve smelled something – that of burning wood fire. Unable to find an appropriate term on this website, I decided to call the experience an ‘UnLucid Dream’. This is a state something like consciousness, but without the key element of awareness of the dream. I am almost utterly incapable of remembering to do Reality Checks, so this may be as far as I ever get.

Though I have to say that the experience had dissolved a good bit of my previous skepticism on the subject of Lucid Dreaming, although I still wont consider them to be a real phenomenon until I experience it firsthand. Which now seems more likely than not. Perhaps… I don’t know.

I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or if it has an ‘official’ name in these parts.

I too have experienced this, and it was that that actually lured me into lucid dreams in general. A couple of years ago I had a dream where I didn’t know I was dreaming, but I could still move around and do whatever I wanted. It was very very strange for me, since I had never experienced anything like that before, but regardless I got instantly hooked, lol.

UnLucid is a good term for it. In my opinion though, it’s just as awesome as a lucid dream. You are still in control! Just the thought of that is pretty cool.

The term unlucid makes it sound like a normal dream. I call this type of dream conscious dreams. since I am conscious, but not lucid. And not PreLucid either. I guess you can come up with alot of terms when you examine the contents.

I thought that it was normal to be near concious in a dream. If not I been having UnLucid Dreams for a while.

it seems to depend on the dream hk-50
Some dreams I think and reason a lot and in others I don’t do it as much.

I kind of came up with the term using the same logic behind the term ‘Undead’. Sort of like it’s dead, but not, so it’s un-dead. Hehe… I guess it could be called a ‘normal’ dream, although I don’t think it’s normal for most people to dream that vividly. Usually in dreams I am completely unaware of the reasons for my actions; there are no thoughts, just actions. Things just happen and I can’t think about them. I’m in a subconscious state of awareness. Normal dreams, I think, are what you get before you start keeping a journal and developing your recall. Then they go through all sorts of different developments as dreaming changes from something inadvertent to a skill that you’ve developed.

One of the skills I have is the ability to have extremely bizarre and near unexplainable thoughts and sensations happen in my dreams. My recall is getting better, too, since I’m working very hard on my journal every day. Since it’s no longer just a dream journal for me, but a writing exercise. I actually enjoy trying to describe them.
