Useful tools?

All,

I’ve been practicing lucid dreaming for 10 years now. It was only in the last five that I discovered the method that works best for me is WBTS. To that end I’ve found some tools that are useful to me. I have a vibrating alarm clock that I put under my pillow to wake me at 3 in the morning (so as not to disturb the family), I have a journal that I keep next to the bed, and I have a special red lantern that I’ve built for when I make my journal entries.

The lantern came about recently and I’m pretty psyched about it. I normally could not shake myself to make journal entries in the middle of the night because I don’t like turning on lights. It takes a lot of focus and effort to pull yourself out of bed and flick on a lamp. Then you’re rewarded with a blinding white light that pierces the brain and makes you forget half of what you’re trying to write down. If the light hasn’t made you forget everything entirely your spouse rolling over and shouting, ‘What the ____ are you doing?’ will finish the job.

This lantern I developed is a translucent plastic jar with one button on the top. When you push the button it slowly fades on to a gentle red glow. Then when you press the button a second time it gently fades off. It does not hurt your eyes or cause them to adjust the way that white light does. And it’s one button operation makes it incredibly simple to reach over and tap on. And the gradual fade on keeps it from jarring the mind. It also doesn’t wake my spouse.

I think it’s the most useful piece of equipment I’ve developed to date.

Do you have any tools that you utilize?

Cheers

I write it down on my phone, because in the middle of the night I can’t be arsed to turn on my light, and get a pen and paper. I even have the note application open on it before I go to sleep, so all I have to do is unlock it. I get really lazy at night.
