I used to be able to have lucid dreams every now and again by realizing I was in a dream, aka DILD. Well, I fell out of lucid dreaming because I didn’t have too many, but now I am willing to, and have tried getting back into the hang of it. The issue I’m having now is remembering details about ND’s. The only thing that helped this last time was copious amounts of RC’s, which I’ve gotten back into doing, but it doesn’t seem to have the same effect, even though I feel it’s working.
So here’s a test I’m going to try for the next two weeks or so.
I found several apps for my ipod that will supposedly help allow me to remember my dreams, and have more frequent lucid dreams. I found one in particular that I believe might help me, just not by using it in the way the developer intended.
This app is supposed to allow you to control what you dream about by playing audio during your REM sleep cycles related to what you chose to dream about. Like if you chose “flying” before you went to sleep, it might play sounds of wind rushing by. This is where my test comes in.
What if you chose the same option every night for a long time, say, 2-3 weeks?
Would you begin to remember the dreams more frequently because they share a common dream-theme?
Would you begin to DILD much easier when seeing this dream-theme because you know for a fact your dreaming when your flying? (I haven’t even been more than 100 feet in the air for the last 6 years, I believe it could be a good dream-sign for me because of this)
And even more, would you be able to DILD easier after the tests are over because you know what lucid dreams feel like by that point?
The last question in the list intrigues me most of all, if I can DILD again through these tests, I’m almost certain I will be able to DILD into normal dream-themes.
I’ll be posting the results of tonights pilot test in this thread, feel free to add any suggestions or questions, the more input I get from different people, the better the outcome.
I tried the method last night, and had pretty astounding results. I ended up remembering one of the longest dreams I’ve had in a while, and while I’m not sure if this is because of the app itself, or because of some other variable, I am certain the app helped.
The dream was pretty strange, but I’ve remembered the dream theme, which is the most important aspect I suppose. I’ll continue testing and see how well my recall gets. At the end of the testing period, I’ll post the most substantial parts in the dreams that allowed me to remember them so clearly, maybe someone will learn from them. (how to better distinguish either reality or something of that nature)
Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been a bit busy with my dancing recently
The app I’m currently using it called “Dreams ctrler” (dreams controller), but it’s not the same one I had unfortunately, I was forced to wipe my ipod due to my jailbreaking habits (itunes couldn’t scan my computer and find the device, its called turning your idevice into a “ghost”)
This app allows you to create custom “dreams”, or recordings your ipod says to you while your asleep so when your in your REM sleep cycle you are allowed to hear these in your dreams. Your also allowed to pick from a pre-recorded library, which is actually kind of large. You can also pick how many you want played, and which ones you want played, with the variety being spoken at random if you have more than one chosen.
The test results with this app are actually kind of surprising though.
In the past three days, I’ve used this app with one earbud in my left ear, seeing as I always sleep the same way every night, which is on my right side. Using this app I’ve actually seen an increase in dream recall, I actually had trouble remembering many details in the past, but on the nights when I used this app, it seems I’ve been able to remember large portions of the dreams, with just some portions missing from my memory. Unfortunately because of my poor recall these portions were entire blocks of the dream, meaning I don’t actually know how long each one of the blocks were or what setting they took place in. These black portions of my memory could be the end of the dream itself, but they don’t seem like it, they seem too abrupt. Like I’m supposed to remember what was there, but I don’t. More testing is required to get actual proof that it helps with recall, which I’ll be testing for the next two weeks as planned.
I personally believe this app helps, but that’s just my personal beliefs, even I don’t know whether or not it’s truly helping yet.
Note: This app DOES allow for playing of pre-made sound tracks emulating scenes like the ocean and the sounds of flying (such as airplanes and wind), allowing for the same test results as I would’ve gotten before, as well as serving the intended purpose for anyone wanting to use this app.
This is belgarion. (i screwed up my other account)
