Hey everyone, this is my first post! I was researching lucid dreaming on the site and found sooo much good info I figured this forum would be a great place to continue the journey. I’m not new to lucid dreaming but I’m faar from experienced. I’ve had to occasional lucid dream, but typically I get too excited, or get scared in the dream and force myself to wake up. The other night after reading a few little articles on lucid dreaming, I had a false awakening, and looked in the mirror and all of my movements were delayed, but then I scared myself awake, so I’m on a journey now to hopefully, one day be able to have a good grasp on lucid dreaming.
Which brings me to the main point (sorry for the long intro lol)…
There are several different things I’ve seen and read that I’ve tried to put together and I figure someone here will share in my curiousity. It started with a documentary on the effects of music on the brain. In this particular story, a man with absolutely no musical background had been in a coma (forget what from)… and when he awoke he had a desire to play piano… and could easily learn songs. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it so I’m sorry that I can’t be a little more specific on the story.
Secondly, the concept of slowing down real time, so that a lucid dream could, in theory, last for many many days, months, or years.
And finally, the idea that doing things in a dream could affect your physical state, (dexterity, ect…)
So it seems as if you reached a point to control your lucid dreams… that you could go in and have as long as you wanted to create music trapped in your subconcious, or practice an instrument and develop an improved muscle memory, or even simply learn to read music by studying it, and then practicing it more and more in your dream since you supposedly hold onto most things that you read. It seems like the possibilities are literally endless. I realize there’s not exactly a question here, but I find this fascinating, and any input or experiences or tips for this would be greatly appreciated!
Welcome to ld4all!
I think you can practise anything in lucid dreams, but I think it is impossible to learn something new in a dream. Love your signature BTW.
I think Paul Tholey was the one who has used LD’s to learn and practice physical abilities and skills like skateboarding. You can learn new things in dreams as long as you remember how to do it correctly, for example you watch videos how to perform a backflip and you can practice the course of movement in your LD. Then you have to train your body IRL so that you actually have the muscles to do a backflip. Since you know how to do a backflip theoretical, it will be easier for you to really perform it IRL.
The Chemical table of elements was created just because Mendeleev dreamt about it.
A. Eistein discovered the idea of relativity in his dream. After that, he created his famous Relativity theory.
…
So yeah, you can dream of anything and take it with you into waking life. Creativity in dreams works just like in real life, if not even better. Therefore you are free to draw or compose music in your dreams. OFC you can think of a story or a poem too, it’s up to your imagination.
If you want to practice something, like playing piano, you can do it in dreams. When we dream, our brain generates nerve impulses, which travel to our muscles. Although they are stopped because of Sleep Paralysis, you will still remember those impulses. During our dreams we tend to remember new information very well, therefore practicing an activity in dreams will surely give good results in waking life.
That’s awesome… so one thing I’ve been thinking lately though…
Some of the things in dreams like time and yourself in a mirror work completely different than in real life… so if you sit down and play something in a dream… will the notes come out the way they would in real life… or would you have a predetermined melody your subconscious is thinking of, that you would play no matter what your hands did? Kinda like playing air guitar while humming a melody… It seems like, from the few memories I have of music in dreams… what I was playing was amazingly beautiful… years above my skill level and completely flawless… something I’d never heard. Keep in mind these were not full lucid dreams that I had control over though… but they were one of the things that got me intrigued in lucid dreaming in the first place… knowing that songs like that are up there somewhere… just figuring out how to find them!
I’m an intermediate level guitar player (and have been for a long time due to lack of practice and progress lol).
I remember last year I had a number of dreams (though they were non-lucid) where I played stuff that was WAY beyond my skill level. I’m talking Satriani and Van Halen style solos. I imagine that in a lucid dream I’d be tempted to have the music sound really awesome despite what I was playing.
But I know that it’s possible to do, for example, chord practice in a dream. Or you can practice theory by reviewing what you know.
Creating new music is definitely possible in a dream, just so long as you remember it well enough to put in on paper (unless you can play by ear in which case it’s even easier). There are few limits when it comes to lucid dreaming, and you can practice waking life skills in a lucid dream.
But be aware of the fact that your subconscious may make you more awesome at what you’re practicing in the dream than you are in waking life.
Everything in your dream depends on your expectations. You decide, how various devices work. Mostly, the things in our dreams happen just like IRL, however, there is nothing stopping you from expecting an orange to taste like chocolate
Your imagination is the only thing, which could stop you.
Music is amazing, and I think it is possible to unlock something of it from your past, but I don’t know if you can learn something completely and totally new that’s accurate in real life.
I do think I’ll listen to the background music in my dreams, and see what kind of awsome songs come up.
Also, if you’ve been fiddling around with a piano in RL for long enough (even if you don’t really know any songs), your SC could figure out the different sounds the notes made, and might be able to figure something out for you. I think I’ve heard of this happening, but I’m not sure where from. I’ve also never had a real LD before, and am no expert on the subject, so I’ll just shut up now.
P.S. This is the most important part of the post: They actually make chocolate that’s in the shape of an orange, and has orange flavor in it. It’s good.
I love music, so in a LD i sometimes turn on a radio to get inspiration. Every time i’ve done this so far, the music is really great and when I wake up I get a pen and paper and write it down.
