So, last night something incredibly strange happened to me. I fell asleep some time around 4 AM, and woke up about an hour later. the dream I had felt like it lasted MUCH longer than an hour, which happens to me sometimes when I get sick, which I kind of was. My tonsils are infected again, and ive felt horrible for well over a week now, and have been coughing very loudly. Now that I think about it, I feel much better today and have not been coughing…moving on.
Right, on to the strange part. About an hour after I fell asleep and had been dreaming away all night, I got to this one part of the dream…I was in a very narrow square tunnel maybe a foot wide, being pulled by a black wire, and heard people talking. I think I was looking through the point of view of a camera. One of them said something like “Is this really where the queen is?”
And then a couple seconds after that, I stopped moving, and it started.
Suddenly, I could feel something VERY strange(and I mean FEEL, this wasnt part of the dream) It felt as if a giant bug of some kind was walking on my back, but not moving, maybe a better way of describing it is it was grabbing at my back with its legs. I also heard a strange sound…I cant remember what it sounded like now, but at the time I was under the impression that it was insect wings of some sort.
The feeling of the legs grabbing at me, and the sound, was so strange and disturbing that it made me realize I was dreaming. The people were still talking, but I couldnt hear them over the buzzing…or flapping…of the “wings”. I started to panic, and then I felt my hand reach up my back to grab at the legs, and I think this is what woke me up. As I woke up, I was rolling over. I could still feel and hear it until I was completely rolled over onto my back. And then it was gone. And the more and more I woke up over the few minutes after this, I could remember less and less just what it felt and sounded like, other than it disturbed me to no end.
But somehow after it was gone, I wasn’t worried about it at all. I kind of half expected something to come out of the dark at me, and I even turned on the light and looked around my room, but I absolutely knew that nothing was there and nothing would happen.
I’ve been thinking about this all day, and I have two conclusions.
The logical one: This was a form of sleep paralysis, which usually only happens to people who are sleeping on their back and have already woken up. But since I don’t sleep on my back most of the time, and this sensation disturbed me so much, I broke it by reaching up and rolling over. If this is so, it would be a shame, because I’ve always wanted to experience sleep paralysis ever since I stumbled upon the subject while researching lucid dreaming, and I may have blown my first opportunity by being on my stomach =/
The mystical one: When I woke up, I had the impression that it was a giant mosquito. I never actually saw anything, of course. But thinking about this, and how I was sick until now…bring up the possibility that this was some sort of creature that survives by feeding on the sickness of people while they sleep. And when I rolled over, I either crushed it or scared it away. I’ve personally never heard of any such creature, but it just kind of makes sense to me. Whether or not this is a creature of this world, or some other, I could not say. Because, well, I’ve never felt like I belong in this world. I downright despise this world, and have spent my life trying to find another where I belong. That’s another story, however, but what makes it relevant in this case is that I was particularly feeling that way on this night, and was very open and…trying to reach out and find another world…kinda…perhaps I brought this creature to me somehow.
However, that also ties into the logical explanation. I’ve read that when people experience sleep paralysis, they almost always experience very vivid hallucinations, usually of sound and feeling more than sight. Since I was in that state of mind going to sleep(though it was a fairly normal dream that had nothing to do with other worlds, just zombies and such. I was watching a neat zombie movie just before going to bed ) perhaps that is just the hallucination that my mind brought into existence during my very short lapse of Sleep Paralysis?(or sleep paralysis-related occurrence)
Now, I want to hear anything and everything that anybody has to say about this, and I will try to check back often and answer any questions. I’m very interested in what happened that night, and things don’t interest me very often!
